There is actually a lot of scholarly research that shows this happens at a systematic level.

Like there is an entire line of research where resumes go out with with stereotypical white and black names. The resumes are exactly the same except the names. They also mix in crimal histories on them too. The results are something like a black sounding name with no crimal history gets fewer call backs than a white sounding name with a criminal history.

I was in a frat at a SEC school and after seeing the these people be put in positions where they are in charge of hiring or promoting people, I never disclose my races on applications lol.

Some black students bleached out this information because they were concerned they might come across as politically radical or tied to racially controversial causes in a way that could turn off an employer.

Nobody wants to hire a radical or a potential controversy, regardless of race or whatever.
