the belief in legal entitlement to 15+ an hour is intrinsically the belief that others deserve to be unemployed (take a look at the correlation between the real minimum wage and the racial unemployment gap)

there is so much emphasis on how little people are paid, and so little emphasis on how much things cost relative to what people are paid

when you zero in on cost instead of income, the issues in persspective change completely

If the company is making billions in profits, then yeah the staff actually facilitating that should get paid more even if it is unskilled work. It's a race to the bottom though - other people on the street would want the job at lower pay as an alternative to being unemployed.

There aren't enough "better" jobs to go around. That is a fact - so unless we are going to pay unskilled people a little more then we will remain a first world country with major poverty problems.

I'm lucky, I done well at school and went to college and now have a good career in accounting. If I had been born into a poorer family I might not have had the same opportunities to have got there.

Nah, I know a lot of local places would die if they had to pay $15 an hour. Not saying people should be making a career there at lower pay but like the little ice cream shacks that employs high school kids and bored retired people can't afford $15 an hour, they barely are above the profit margin as it is.

I firmly believe that the people who are so against better wages have had to work in a shitty job. I make just a little over $15 an hour, and, good lord I deserve so much more. For the amount of shit I have to put up with, the physical strain on my body, the mental anguish... its not enough.

I know yOu ShOuLd HaVe GoNe To ScHoOl, and I agree, but for a long time I just simply couldnt afford it.

You might want to think your post through before calling someone else's post dumb. This is always the case when it comes to wages earned and the work done. This is why you have to "sell yourself" for the job you want. No one's going to pay you the wage you want just because you think you deserve it.

Highschool kids?
What happens when there aren't any employable hs kids?
Walmart closes its doors?

If the job sucks, you are going to have to keep the pay competitive enough so that you will have workers willing to do the job.

You can't live in a country that wants to get rid of the immigrants then doesn't want to pay it's citizens a fair wage either.

Also, inflation kind of forces wages up since literally everything is going up in price except pay.

I mean, I'm technically paid hourly. I have a guaranteed salary though, can't get paid for less than 40 hours but get paid for anything I work over that.
I make just over $40/hr.

If the minimum wage was around $1/hour, all the manufacturing job would come back to the USA. It's so simple, China has such a strong workforce because they pay very little, therefore the cost to produce is almost just material, can't believe no one has caught on to this, we should really lower the minimum wage if we want a booming economy, simple supply and demand.
