Should people who have paid their debt for a non-violent offense have their voting privileges restored once they have served their sentence?

I say they should.

Yeah, and violent felons should be able to vote, too.

I agree that criminals should be able to vote.

Like, imagine if 90% of the population was criminals... wouldn't it make sense if they had democratic power instead of the 10% "elites"

There should be a waiting period in which they must remain crime free before veing restored imo. If you keep fucking up and going to jail/prison i dont really trust your decision making abilities.

Only if they also can have their 2nd Amendment rights restored. If you arent comfortable with one of those things you shouldnt be comfortable with the other.

Coming from a country that does not have nonsense like that, I feel like I can safely ignore that.
Non-life prison sentences are about rehabilitation, withholding rights after that would kinda undercut that,

What are you guys even talking about? I looked it up and only one state permanently takes away the right to vote from felons and like 8 have some hoops to jump through to get the privilege back. The vast majority of the country is fine with felons voting as long as they aren't literally in prison.

Both should retain voting rights. The only difference between violent and non-violent offenders should be what considerations, if any, should be taken to ensure the public safety.

As someone who works in a prison thats the funniest joke ive ever read. We have programs to help rehabiltate them but they are strictly voluntary.

Yeah we basically are glorified adult babysitters these days. The only thing I can say is they try to make them have a job or classes. But some jobs are far less than what I had daily chores as a teen.

Its sad that even in basic they teach you that the prisoners run the prison and they only allow you to work there.

I'd rather see someone who made a mistake and ended up with a felony assault conviction get their voting rights back before the scumbag, piece of shit that did something like swindle a bunch of old people out of their retirement funds.

The hard part is looking at circumstances. Id have more pity on a guy in prison for assualting a dude that say groped his girlfriend then I would a guy who clobbered someone either for no good reason or in the process of another crime. Same as with non violent id have more pity for a guy who sold drugs to feed his kids than one who did just so he has money to fund his personal lifestyle (doing drugs himself, having money to impress girls, expensive electronics etc.)
