Better than TLJ but it still has problems.
They really shouldn't have brought back the Emperor. That invalidated Anakin's redemption and sacrifice in RotJ by doing that.

And Rey is still a godawful boring character.

Kylo Ren was probably the only new character I liked in this whole trilogy.
Phasma could've been too but sadly they killed her off before she really could do anything memorable.

Even though it was a repeated line from the Emperor in RotS, "The Dark Side is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be... unnatural." was cool as heck to hear again.

It was a decent film but it could've been so much worse.
But that's the problem: something as big as Star Wars should be fucking amazing.

I really liked how they used the same dialogue between Kylo and Han from TFA, but with the meaning that he didnt know if he had the strength try to redeem himself after everything he had done, rather than not knowing if he had the strength to kill his father and go to the dark side fully

The biggest problem is that the narrative does nothing to justify its existence. They undid the events of the original trilogy, only to repeat them. The sole reason this trilogy exists is to make Disney billions of dollars.

Its true that money is one reason any major film exists, but usually theres a story to tell, or at least some themes or characters the director wants to explore...

I think most people agree Kylo was the only good character to come out of this trilogy.

Finn had potential, but they screwed him over in Last Jedi.

In previous "leaks" about changed cuts of the movie, it's said the original explanation for why Palpatine was alive was he made clones of himself, and the one that died was a clone, but test audiences said that was stupid, so they gave it no real explanation instead.

its easy to redeem the villain by saving a heros life

its harder to make him live on, now being forced to live with the fact that he will always be in the shadow of a great man, his father, who he killed for no reason way cooler and better

Lol if you think thisll be the last movie. A new trilogy was already announced and then shelved because the Game of Thrones
showrunners abandoned the deal to work for Netflix because Netflix presumably threw them an ungodly amount of money to walk away from Disney.

The issue was they said they were going to end the Skywalker story from the beginning so they basically from the very beginning wanted all the Skywalkers to die.

Of course, that didn't have to happen, you could just not mention the Skywalkers anymore and make movies about different characters and not have the Skywalkers come back.

Anyway, agreed, it was a total cop out. He's redeemed because he died, the end. It made the kiss even worse, because what's the point if Kylo is going to die.

But they cop out of even actually ending the Skywalker name, because Rey for no reason decides to take on the Skywalker name herself, so the Skywalker name isn't even going to end anyway.

The new trilogy felt completely unnecessary. While it wasn't similar enough to the original trilogy to be a remake, it wasn't different enough either. The story flow was exactly the same and left it open for them to make yet another trilogy, making it seem like an endless waltz.

It's definitely an endless waltz though. Star Wars will live forever now.

You can always make the argument "everything is to make money" and sure, that's true. But the original trilogy made money because it was inspired. And as much as people hate the prequels, Lucas still had his vision and inspiration that he was attempting to put on the screen. If i had any inkling that there was ANY real inspiration for these movies I'd be a whole lot less critical. But there wasn't. The Rise of Skywalker was the most disingenuous cash-grab period.

Disney should've stuck with doing films such as Rogue 1 and Solo and not Episodic movies.

Freshly returned from the theater.

The pacing was all over the place, the writing was a mess, and many potentially good characters were done dirty. I'm still glad I had a chance to see it, but this wasn't the ending I was looking for.

Still better than the prequel trilogy, though, IMO.

I felt it was too busy. The movie never really gave you enough time to process and appreciate the twists, and the action was WAY over the top.

It also felt like they tried to put too much into the movie. I don't blame RoS for this as much as I blame TLJ; if TLJ hadn't been so bland, they wouldn't have felt so compelled to wrap everything up in RoS.

All in all, the series suffered from an apparent lack of long term planning. The most frustrating thing about that is that this was the ONLY chance we had to get the original cast back together.
