What do you like/dislike about them? Did you choose online by choice or because that was the only modality available to you? What would make the class better in your opinion?

I am teaching my first online class in January and wanting to get some insights. Stuff like what to do or what to avoid.

I done some additional accounting modules after I started my current job* through online modules that my work paid for if I could sort doing them in my own time.

*I needed a certain level for future promotions.

Ahh, so it was self-paced, so I assume there was no actual insturctor attached to it?

I've taken a couple and I think it was usually because it was the only option available for a class I needed to graduate. My problem is I'm a huge slacker so if an assignment is due at midnight Saturday then I'm starting at 11. I'm way more inclined to go to a physical class and learn the material or participate in the activity to learn. Not really sure how you can adjust your teaching for that though.

I'll think of a sig later.

What are you teaching?

I've only taken CS classes online. It's very convenient.

Im taking classes online right now actually. First time I've ever taken post-high school courses btw. I wasnt able to choose (since this is only what my work union offered) but I like taking online courses because I dont have to actually GO anywhere (my full time job keeps me plenty busy, adding having to physically go to a school on top of that would wear me out).

Cant compare it to traditional courses, but Im happy with them.

Yeah it was up to me to manage my own workload and discipline it!

I took one last year. It was a really halfassed experience. I don't know if it's typical, but the instructors barely seemed to be making an effort.

I took MAT135 (intro to statistics) online, had to go to the campus to take the tests.

I enjoyed it but ultimately it boiled down to being a big tutorial on how to use StatCrunch, which I didn't mind but I don't know if I really learned much stats.

My wife also took a class on Quickbooks and I did the work along with her and enjoyed that.

I took a few college courses online and never again. I had to basically do double the work in leiu of sitting through a lecture and that's bullshit. The opposite of convenient.

I'm hoping my Stats class could be more applicable outside of just learning the software. I was thinking of recording videos working out problems so students can follow along. Another idea is using current events news stories that use polls and other statistics and teach them how to evaluate them for bias and soundness of poll design.

It could just be the way I learn now. I've done a lot of computer-based training for my job so you learn to focus on certain information (whatever's being tested) and disregard other information (whatever's not being tested). If the coursework/tests don't care an iota about X or Y concept, then I'm not going to, either :\ It didn't help that the professor literally gave the formulas with each test.

I took many online courses in my quest to get a BS and ultimately CPA.

My favorite classes were the ones where all the exams and message board requirements were laid out and available to me to complete right from the very start of the semester, as opposed to the ones where deliverables were made available at specified intervals through the semester.

I mean, that was my learning style and my goal was to complete as many credits as possible so I could rack up 150 and sit for the CPA, so my path might not the norm, but it was great to complete a whole semesters worth of work in a matter of 3-4 weeks and be able to kick back the rest of the time.
