We need to maximize profits of this ip. To persue this, we require the following: 1. Lots of new but pointless characters that will become toys. Phasma 2. Fit into social trends like female protagonist. Did you not see how much $$$ Hunger Games made? 3. Clone parts of old trilogy, but as new characters. We need a new darth vader, a new palpatine, a new r2d2, a new han solo, etc. All these will become toys. We aren't original. " Basically Disney thought they could productize it more than SW already was instead of trying to come up with a compelling story. The only reason people bought old SW merch was because it had a compelling story. But don't expect big execs to understand that. I think they need to explore some new time periods in the Star Wars universe. Ideally they should start creating stories that take place before the prequels. I always thought I was a huge star wars fan, but the current fans have made it very clear that I am not since I lost interest after the last movie. You gotta know that to most people it's not ruined, and in fact still beloved. I don't understand, I don't agree with it, but there you have it I'm personally baffled by everyone being so set in their opinion. The movie has some truly amazing shots, and some truly awful scenes.
