Yeah, no, he is. You couple hundred out there marching are a vocal minority. The people of the UK clearly voted in the biggest landslide since 1985.

Fuckin idiots.

I don't know if they have an EC, but there is no denying that it was a matter of sheer numbers. It was a catastrophic defeat for the opposition. Brexit was effectively the only issue at hand for the voting public and while the vote to leave was a marginal victory, the number of people who believe the result of the referendum should be enforced is not at all marginal. The other parties also collaborated far too obviously to constrain the ability for the conservative minority to do anything at all up to this point since Teresa May took office. This frustration and obvious political gamesmanship is what resulted in this massive defeat for the opposition in this case.

Neither. The prime minister is the leader of the party that won the most seats. People don't vote for the PM directly the way Americans do for president

Tories got 43.6% of the vote

326 seats is 50.1% of parliament.

Tories won 365 seats.

Yikes, guess the UK is another secret anus Hitler country that doesn't believe in democracy.

It's now been four straight elections lost by a divided left in the UK. At a certain point you'd think Labour and the Lib Dems would just say fuck it and unite.

Not sure what the precise term is, but I was trying to draw the distinction between a direct democracy and a representative democracy

Yeah this is the real problem

People are going to ignore it to troll but the big issue in the UK is that the government does not represent what the people actually believe or vote.

Being okay with that because your side benefits from it is kinda fucked up.

There isn't a direct democracy on any national level other than referendums. The critiques against the Anglo-world voting systems are that they aren't truly proportionally representative.

This is basically my attitude. Elections have consequences, the Brits fucked up. They should've left the EU almost immediately, seen how bad it was, and then held another referendum to try to rejoin (likely without many of the privileges that they were previously able to secure) a few years later. All they've done is delay the pain and likely made rejoining down the road all the more unlikely.

Effect of the 3rd party. Scottish Independence folks didnt want to conform with the Labour Party so they split votes and gave Conservatives the win.

Agreed. No party is owed votes, but after four failures now you'd think that the British left would try to hammer out a merger. They're only hurting their own respective agendas.

Less than half the country voted for the Tories. Only a tiny amount of THOSE people voted him to lead the party.

Not sure how the country voted for him, just because he won the election

Doesn't change much though as he did win, and when we had a chance to change our voting system we decided "nah, we like this bad way"

Yeah, UK'ers shouldn't be complaining about their voting system when literally TWO THIRDS voted NOT to change it when they had a chance
