I'd chug a beer, then recycle the can by free throwing it into the nearest recycling bin.

Right, cuz some random guy making an insignificant amount of "damage" to the earth is going to make a difference compared to China & India, hundreds of thousands of airplanes in the air every single day, fossil fuel usage, cow flatulence, millions of gas powered vehicles on the road, coal plants, oil plants, coal plants, Hollywood celebrities on private gas guzzling jets(Leo DiCaprio) and huge corporations dumping waste into oceans and what not.

Not much I can do there. Taking away my plastic straws isn't going to make a difference. Try going after the people with private jets first, young lady and then go visit China; the WORST offender of this issue.

Sweden stands for 0.2% of the worlds carbon dioxide emissions.
Why should the Swedes that are not living in the big cities pay for trying to lower their carbon dioxide emissions when it is all a fart in the big picture?
If we could get countries like India, Russia, USA, China, etc to be only half as good as Sweden, it would make a huuuge difference, so why not concentrate on them?

I feel like "Why should I bother when companies will do more damage?" is missing the point.

No one is asking you to single handedly save the world or anything. Obviously one person can't do that.

One person can't, but if enough people do do then maybe we can stop what's coming. Or at the very least delay things.

One person can't do much, but one person can do something. Enough people doing something end up accomplishing something more often than not.

I haven't looked into the environmental benefit of banning plastic straws, but to me the big difference is cloth and paper bags are just fine for shopping but paper straws are simply terrible and just don't plain work.
