This is true. Dehydration can be a serious concern, too (despite -40F wind chills during winter, summer can get up to 100F up here, although 90F is more common).

I'd prefer getting killed by the cold. At worst, your body goes numb and you get drowsy until you fall asleep permanently. At best, you'll feel warm enough to want to strip all your clothes off before you pass out.

Back in college, some of the faculty there had done research down in Antarctica. Pretty neat stuff! One story I heard from one guy is that he'd go to bed with an empty water bottle, so if he did have to urinate in the middle of the night, he wouldn't have to leave the warmth of his sleeping bag to do so...

No idea if this is actually common practice, or if he was just pulling my leg.

I just hate the extremes. Way too hot? Screw it. Way too cold? Screw it. That nice middle ground slightly warm with a cool breeze, or slightly cold with a warm breeze. Where it's slightly warm and there's this fine slightly cool mist rain? The stupid thing is I usually adapt to the extreme...by its climax and then have to suffer the opposite. I used to love rainstorms/thunderstorms, especially at night and would just go wander the shops as the streets were basically empty (as were the shops). Such a beautiful experience. But then some really expensive shoes let me down and I couldn't afford anymore for a while, but still had to keep going out in the cold and damp (damaged soles), and now I just remember the damp, filthy street water misery seeping into me.

same. honestly the cold doesnt effect me unless there is wind involved. if it's just a cold day with no wind I can go out with a hoodie and jeans. this was the root of so many arguments as a child/teen as every adult insisted for i was just consistently lying about not being cold and forced me to wear layers and/or a big heavy jacket and then i'd be miserable and sweaty.

Over 60 I pour sweat.

Under 0 I wear jeans and long sleeves instead of shorts and t-shirts.

If my options are -30 or 90, I'll gladly take -30 and put more clothes on.

hot vs cold debate is kind of meaningless. cold where i'm at is 40-50, which i'd gladly take over 100+. but i would also take 100F weather over snow and negatives. but then i'd take snow weather over some temps in ethiopia. and between ethiopia and oymyakon, i don't really know.

ranking temp ranges would be interesting though.

60-80 > 40-60 > 80-95 >> 30-40 >>>>> 95-105 > 10-30

Of course the far extremes suck so much that it's useless to compare them.

I just moved here a year ago and I'm really enjoying it so far. I took up hiking for exercise back in June and I love how many trail options there are. Can't wait to tackle some of the trails near Hurricane Ridge this summer!
