Should I report it?

So we have an outdoor security camera set up. I get a notification on my phone when someone approaches the door.

I got a notification the other day and looked at it. A small child was delivering my Nordstrom package. They looked to be between 8-10 years old.

Im guessing the driver is taking their kid in the truck and having them deliver the packages.

It really bothers me because I feel like this is child labor law abuse. People dont take their kids to work and have them work for them. But Im conflicted because I dont want the driver getting fired before the holidays if their family is relying on that money. Ive asked a couple people irl and theyre saying its no different than paying kids to do chores. But a) making your kid do your work for you isnt chores and b) how do we know theyre even paying the kid?

What do you guys think?

Obviously the family is relying on the money but that child should be in school. Report and screw the bad parents for not getting real jobs.

Maybe the kid asked if they could do it.

I know I offered to help a lot when I was that age.

Was this during a school day or were schools off? If schools were off and they were just helping the kid then it's ok. Lots of people bring their kids into the office on school closed days and have them help with small things like filing. This sounds like basically the same idea.

If schools were active though then that's wrong and should be reported.

Even if its innocent the person could lose their job and their ability to provide for that child.

This reminds me of that scene in Atlanta where the dude has a kid run up to the door and deliver food. The guy opens the door and checks lil homies pockets, takes the food and shuts the door. God I love that show.

One time a small girl delivered my pizza. She definitely looked smaller than 8. I could see their car and presumably parents watching her. But still I was quite shocked.

I dont consider child exploitation to be nothing. There are clear laws on this and rules that drivers know they have to follow, including not bringing their kids (or anyone I believe) in their delivery trucks.

That said Im leaning towards not saying anything as I dont want to fuck with a familys income before holidays. Curious as to what CE thinks.

The kid was likely just riding along and wanted to feel like a grown-up or pretend they're Santa or something. I doubt the driver was making the child do every delivery.

Was it a UPS delivery? I know in some areas we are using Personal Delivery Drivers. Basically you show up in the morning and we load whatever vehicle you drive with as many packages as possible, then you go deliver them. There really aren't any controls in place beyond that.

If the package was heavier than 10-15lbs I would say definitely report it to the UPS site it was delivered out of. We likely won't use that particular driver again.

"UPS using child labor" would be a fucking publicity nightmare and I'd imagine we would like to avoid that lol.

If it was just a small package I'd say let it go as it's just a kid helping their parent. Still probably wouldn't be ok by UPS standards, but fuck it.

Okay since this was a Saturday, the kid wasnt missing school.

was this like an amazon delivery where people can set their own hours to deliver stuff?

its possible that the parent wanted to do some work but they had nowhere to drop off the child. So they took them with them? Could be a single mom. The kid maybe wanted to help out.

no there is no reasonable explanation, this person should be persecuted to the fullest extent of the law and their child should probably be taken away from them and put into foster care instead of dangerous delivery kidnapping situations

Something similar happened to me a few months ago.

But let me tell you a little something about myself. I live a miserable life. Maybe I'm depressed. I'm possibly a liberal.

Anyway, I ordered appliances and the delivery guys came. I noticed a kid. Maybe around 11 or 12. He was helping opening the boxes and cutting straps with a knife. Quickly I realized this was child abuse in the eyes of child labor laws.

I called 911 because obviously this was an emergency. Long story short, I was successfully able to have those adult delivery guys executed, a job well done. My horrible existence was satiated for a few hours of smugness, and in a few short months I will have forgotten completely about this story and I will look for new lives to ruin.

There is a whole bunch of scenarios why there is a kid in there. Scenarios you are not aware of. Maybe the driver is a bad person. Maybe he isn't. Maybe he's doing the best he can and a situation was thrown at him where he had to bring the kid along. Maybe the kid asked if he can do some small boxes and the "dad" humored him.

Whatever the reason, I know one thing. If you report the situation, you are probably a horrible person and between that guy and you, I hope people like you are erased from our world permanently because you are just one reason why this world has become a terrible place. Its time to look in a mirror and ask yourself why you hate yourself so much.
