-The only legit reason is a competitive mtiplayer game and said thing is very imbalancing and you essentially need to use it to compete.

-I hate when people play a SP game, put it on normal/easy when theres harder difficulties, find a power/weapon known to be really strong and continue to use it while crying it breaks the game.

-I rarely hear people cry for things to be buffed.

Right? Especially on your second point

I'm still salty about what they did to lightning in Dark Souls 2, and in a way it carried over to 3

People who bitch about OP stuff in single player games just don't have the willpower to not use them so they want to punish everyone because of their own issues. They suck and are essentially "No fun allowed" types.

How many of these things were meant to be in the game? Example: in Castlevania 1 in the Grim Reaper level, if you can get to the Grim Reaper without dying and carry the holy water and the multi-use powerups all the way, it's basically an instant win. That was clearly intended by the developers.

It makes thinking about and talking about the game more fun for game nerds to argue over if more of the game's provided options are more balanced.

It also makes the game better for newer players when they reach those choices and having future options mean something, rather than crutching by on accidentally OP early weapon/ability/trick.(which spreads via gossip)

Furthermore, on Reviews / Lets Plays (or just watching your friend play in his room) if he keeps doing "lame OP thing" over and over... it makes the game look lame. Potentially ruining sales.

It was inevitable since they already nerfed lightning weapons in Dark Souls near the launch months.

Also when a sensible people want nerfs, they are not complaining to you that you use them. But the devs. (if they're sensible they are, complaining to the easy mode player isn't worth either's time)

Game balance is like designing a test for students.

You design the test so it accurately measures the student's ability and isn't stacked with questions that are too easy. (otherwise what are you measuring? all you're measuring is that they showed up for the test.)

(and yes, people should play easy mode if they want. Get a hack patch, trainer, cheat engine, cheat code, game genie, turn the game difficulty to Easy, and go crazy. Your high scores just shouldn't show up on the public high score leaderboard, nor should you be able to trade your duped items/money with other players, even in an otherwise single player game)

Let's say Perfect Dark gets release today and there's a competitive online multiplayer scene. Wouldn't you want some of the guns to be nerfed/buffed? Wouldn't you want some of the levels to be reworked to be more fun?

This is one reason I lost interest in Nioh.

Amazing release game, horrible patches afterwards though.

Oh, well, at least it is still possible to play the base.

The healing spells were nerfed too, and were cast in slow motion. I still remember on launch day hanging out in Heide's Tower of Flame as a 'spellknight' character, popping group heals in the middle of the fight against the Old Dragonslayer.

Before that though in Dark Souls a lot of people complained about Iron Flesh cutting something like 80% of physical damage, which made it balanced for NG+ runs, so From Soft nerfed the damage reduction by half, making the spell a liability in most cases. It basically achieved meme status and thus got smacked down.

Personally I'd rather options be available to players. If players want to do a ranged playthrough, let them. If they want to play a tank character that laughs off hits, let them. There should be more to choose from than 'poke it dual rapiers or smack it with dual clubs or you're doing it wrong'.

I'd say it depends. Is it an early, mid, late game boss? Mainline or sidequest? Does the technique work on all bosses? Or even worse, all enemies? Is the technique hard to do, or hard to acquire the items or levels necessary? If it only hits 1 or 2 points it might just be left alone as a quirky way to win once for players to discover for that specific boss. But if it's a technique that works on bosses and enemies everywhere, then it should probably be nerfed in some way.

As a general point, players who ask for nerfs can be unjustified, or justified.

The bad nerfer: "Rock is OP. Paper is fine." ~Scissor player.

The good nerfer: "Rocks in general are fine. But change Granite over here into Paper for balance reasons." ~Scissor player

Thats a stupidly good analogy. Well said.

Watching the latest Summoning Salt speedrun history video about Castlevania 1. He talks about how difficult the game is then right away mentions how "overpowered" the Holy Water is.

Like what? Are you even listening to yourself?

thing is, you could choose what weapons were on a map in the multiplayer. i'd want to keep them as they were.

as for the levels -- i don't know. i can't think of anything really really wrong with them as they are.
