I don't think you ever would lose people, in that case. The entire screen would be covered in bullets all the time, so unless enemy HP values were tuned extremely high (like, you need all 100 players overlapping each other and shooting them at the same time to stand a reasonable chance of killing them), everything would just die instantly.

BattleRoyale Platformer, what are you thikning of?

I have seen multiplayer Mario before, but the first thing that came to mind was Castlevania Harmony of Despair.

Well, I'm more thinking that the first levels are so hard that teammates taking a bullet for you is likely.
