Arin isnt intelligent enough to play Zelda games. Watch any of his Zelda lets plays. He gets stuck for hours on puzzles designed for kids

Those videos still hold up, for the most part. He makes decent points, though some of them are off base due to his own bias. A lot of his criticism of the 3D space in OOT came from his perspective, which obviously wasn't attuned to that kind of gameplay. This is made clear by his actual play-through of OOT. During that play-through he acknowledges that he was a bit too hard on the "stuff coming from nowhere" because the game actually does show you those things in advance, and it expects you to remember that they exist. There are also sound cues and whatnot.

Most of his design philosophy points hold up, even when his gameplay criticisms don't. Especially in his Mega Man X video. And he's not wrong about everything in OOT; he has valid input on enemy design and tedium. A lot of the 1v1 'duel' style enemy encounters in the game are just "block with shield, counter attack" several times in a row. Or waiting/unskippable cutscenes for chests and item rewards, etc.

None of it is game breaking to the degree he seems to suggest, but he's not completely crazy.

Arin's biggest problem is that he's stubborn. He wants to play games in his exact way, with no compromise. That works for some games, but not for others. In Zelda, you actually need to equip yourself, use your equipment, and understand enemy mechanics. It's not a hard game, but it requires a commitment to understanding it.

Arin doesn't like to understand it. He likes to bash his preconceived notions against it and hope for the best. It's basically Rock, Paper, Scissors, but Arin always picks rock.

I'd forgotten how bad that "playthrough" was.

Not sure why he even bothers playing games he dislikes if he's gonna be like that. Much more enjoyable to see them play games they actually enjoy playing.

That killed me in OoT.

By the time I was told to go to Zora's Domain, I had forgotten all about Owlface's explanation of the map and thought that hole in the minimap was a cropping error.

I interpreted "Zora's Domain" as "the place where the Zoras live" and looked around in Lake Hylia over and over and over until I didn't want to live amymore.

And the game was filled with those kinds of frustrations for me. I got stuck in Gerudo Valley for hours because I didn't have the longshot, I got stuck trying to get into Hyrule Castle forever because I saw the obvious splodey boulder and thought I needed to look for bombs to go through that way.

It was just a miserable experience for me.
