Great false finish, in the pro wrestling sense - I actually briefly bought it.

I will say I appreciate the little trick they did with the Buzz reaching out his hand.

anyone old enough for Toy Story nostalgia is probably familiar enough with story telling tropes to see that as a call back to the beginning of the film, where Buzz offered to shake Woodys hand, only for Woody to defiantly fix his hat and storm off.

So you see Buzz reaching out to Woody in the furnace and youre like oh yeah, Woodys about to save the day somehow! Only for him to grab the hand and accept death. >_>

If Pixar had any balls they would've let the toys burn and ended the series.

Well yeah, that's what I found so emotional about the scene.

It's pretty obvious they would have survived, but what really stole the scene was that look of defeat. Throughout 3 movies, no matter what the obstacle, they would always pull through using their dedication. If one if them lost hope, the other would always be there to pick them up and encourage them to keep fighting.

This was the first time in the series where they both accepted their fate and used it as an opportunity to at least go down together.

It was a powerful scene because it was not cheap. It wasn't your typical "character may die" scene, as I felt they earned it. The whole movie was about their value as toys and how they felt they were losing their value as their kid grew up and they were abused by preschoolers.

Ending up in an incinerator showcased both literally and metaphorically that they were basically trash at that point and this scene showed them realizing it.
