....which streaming device, but not a smart TV, do you use and which "cable" streaming services? I do want kinda in depth answers.

Right now my family is using a Fire Stick and SlingTV. I do think Sling is the best TV option for my family, but the app itself doesn't run well on the Fire Stick. And not just for us, I search online and the app just doesn't run well on any Fire Stick. Because the Fire Stick basically uses components that are from 2014.

The Shield TV looks nice but I was wondering what PotD uses.

Have you checked if a Roku would have the app for what you use to stream. I can't say enough good things about them. We have a few in the house because our cable tv system has an app for streaming the cable. Our Samsung Smart 4k tv also has a downloadable app for our cable system. The tv also has many other apps for other streaming services all these apps for the set seem to work very well. Take the Disney plus app. It has some shows in 4k and if they are 4k they will be streamed by the app in 4k on the tv. This is true if you get a 4k version of a Roku also.

Cancelled cable years ago

Use Apple TV and Ps4 to watch almost everything. We pay for Netflix and Disney+, get Hulu and showtime for free through sprint, and have access to HBO and a few others through shared accounts with family members

You don't even need a service like apple TV etc. Almost all the channels stream their shows online at this point, although you generally need to watch it within a few months of it airing (you can watch it that night).

You do have to watch commercials that way.

Otherwise, Hulu has alot of them with no comercials for $12 a month, and then netflix has pretty much the rest of them but you have to wait till the whole season is over (then binge it all at once).

If you have a hulu/netflix account they offer a free month to come back every 6 months, so you could pretty much just use them. Hulu actually lets you watch live shows the day they air though, so if you like a bunch of them, it might be worth just keeping it during the months live TV is airing decent stuff.

Netflix is pretty good to just snag twice a year (Every 6 months) and binge everything that has come out etc at that point.

I don't watch sports or the news, so that all works perfectly for me.

I watch (without paying for anything):

The good place, Supernatural, Young Sheldon, Legacies, Rick and Morty, Emergence, The Rookie and a few random other shows. I usually am subbed to something even if it's free as well (subbed to free Hulu and Disney + although I already canceled Disney + as there just wasn't enough I wanted to see on it) Both were free anyway so no biggie.

So if you have specific shows you like, check the networks website and see if they stream it for free before paying for cable or sling tv etc. Even if they don't, check Hulu (they have a version with comercials that is pretty cheap, and since it's on your comp (even if you hook it up to your TV), you can just post on gamefaqs etc while the comercial goes (I pay for no comercials...well if I actually pay, always get the no comercial one if it's a free month of course).

I quit cable years ago. Right now, it's almost $180 for cable without any channels like HBO or Cinemax and it is going up again in January.

I use a roku with Netflix and hulu.I will likely get Disney next month. Right now, my bill is less than $40 a month. Hard to complain about that price difference

Umm... by not using those things.

When I cancelled TV it's because I lost interest in the medium; so I don't stream anything. Still have netflix access though, since I share passwords with parents, but that's about it... don't really use it.

Haven't used cable in years. Have an antenna for local TV, used a Wii for a Netflix selection box until I got a $50 streaming Bluray player. I guess my Xbox One would do the same thing.

I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon, so I have Prime, and Prime Video is good enough that I cancelled Hulu and plan to drop Netflix too.

We have never had cable in this area. It took about ten to twelve years to get a useable internet service here and we pay $80 a month. We share Netflix with my brother in Oregon and hes going to share our Disney+. We watch TV on antenna and Dish Network.

I use a Roku smart tv and my phone. The tv is basically a standard smart tv with a Roku stick embedded inside it. I never wanted cable growing up and Im completely fine with just Hulu and Disney+ right now. Maybe in the future Ill use Netflix too but it really doesnt have enough content that interests me to warrant my purchase yet. I also have Amazon Prime video but thats free with Amazon Prime, and I dont really watch much on it. Other than that I have a bunch of movies on Vudu too.

Thanks for all the answers!

Just a bit more information. We already have Disney+, Netflix, and Prime Video but my dad does like watching cable which is why I was wondering what TV streaming things anyone uses, both devices and apps. Oh, and he's gotta have his football. It's been so long since we've had an antennae that we forgot just how hard it is to get a decent signal in our area.

I've had the feeling, long before making this topic, that the answer really was just getting something better than the fire stick. It's not useless though since Youtube and Netflix both work just fine on it. Disney+ works OK on it but I do notice it's a bit sluggish.

I am curious to know how other TV streaming things like SlingTV run on the fire stick though.

We cut the cord then got an antenna

Eventually we got a Roku in preparation of Disney+ and found lots of free stuff.

We loaded Netflix and YouTube on it (retiring our Wii U) and got the Adult Swim channel for their live streams my wife enjoys

All in all, best $25 I've spent in years

Edit : One thing we can't get is Twitch (Amazon bought 'em) but we can cast the Twitch app from a phone to the TV
