What are you going to use it for? If it's going to be a networking device, you could probably get away with a few MB. If it's for gaming, sky's the limit.

Well, consider that the current archive download is about 730MB, so after extraction it will eat up like a gig or 2 just by itself. At that point it depends if you think you'll be going mostly with cartridge images or disc images. Cartridges were never really that large to begin with, you could probably be fine with something small like 16GB if you're just aiming for the big names, pricing sweet spots aside. Discs will quickly balloon the storage requirements, and if your tastes are extensive I'd probably start looking at 64GB as a bare minimum.
