I do actually appreciate Connor more nowadays. I used to think he was kinda bland but I think AC trying to have every MC since be a witty, snarky person to hide any real depth (though I never played Origins) makes me realize he had good characterization.

I remember saying how I didn't have a big desire to replay this game thanks to it not reaching the main game until sequence six. I decided to skip all the cutscenes and that cut it down to about 2 hours of gameplay to get there but God damn we really didn't need 5 sequences of tutorials.

I honestly was beyond disappointed in ACIII when I first played it.

I liked Altir and LOVED Ezio but damn.....it was just kind of meh from the start.

Best thing about it was the ship battles and that's only because they expanded upon it for ACIV

This was the last real Assassin's Creed game, if we're being honest.

ACIV was the pirate game.
ACU was the broken game.
ACS was the minigame game.

And Origins and Odyssey were just ripping off a million other games.

this was the game that killed AC for me at the time. I was very excited and didn't like the combat changes, but was into it until they switched protags....then it fell off. Also trudging thru snow :/

I feel like I am the only person whose favorite thing in Assassin's Creed is climbing stuff, because I bring this up whenever a discussion about III props up and nobody responds lol. Colonial American architecture was lame as shit. That is the main reason why III is my least favorite to date. Give me more of large and intricate Euro architecture to ascend!

I loved the Assassin Tombs in the Ezio games because of all the parkour puzzles and stuff. Those were my favorite gameplay sections. Do they still have those?

And yeah, figuring out how to get to the top of really tall or intricate buildings like the Colosseum is a blast.

It's my favorite thing too but apparently I'm the only one who remembers the fucking TREE AND ROCK CLIMBING which they completely abandoned in every sequel and will never bring back again.

The buildings were low but the climbing routes were really good and smooth from up to down. Brotherhood had the best tall building climbing by far but 3 overall is a very close 2nd.

3 was an absolute snoozefest where somehow the Desmond sequences were actually more fun/interesting than the actual assassin gameplay which is a remarkable achievement when you think about it

you could maybe talk me into something around how it's more "authentically an assassin's creed game" than games like 4 or origins or whatever... that might be true

but that doesn't detract from the fact that it's an absolute snoozefest

I'll take fun over authentic any day

In the mainline series that would be Unity, a game who decided features that had been around since 2009 needed to be stripped out and hidden behind a stupid level system.

Fun is a chemical that your brain produces in a very predictable way. That is why every AC and every open world game after 4 is exactly the same. Because people like you don't know how to have fun any other way.

That's fine. Not hurting anyone. But I'm glad AC 3 exists despite that.
