I had high hopes for Death Stranding

Even when the reviews came out and said it was mostly a cargo delivering slog, I still gave it a chance

When I was playing the game and low and behold, it was a slog, I still didn't give up thinking there would be pay off at the end

I just beat the game last night and all I feel is massive disappointment. I'll never bother with a Kojima game ever again

There's certainly support for the topic title. Kojima has legitimate and OBVIOUS problems with his writing that range from the annoying to the hilarious (largely depending on one's mood at the time). He's been a punchline for decades.

At least he's able to get his vision, unbelievably flawed though it is, into a workable result.

I haven't play Death Stranding yet, so I'm not gonna pass judgment on it.

I'll be honest, I have more of an issue with his cult than the man himself. I still enjoyed most of his games despite the increasing amount of flaws they had as they went along.

It was an apocalyptic kind of event where ghost like things showed up and whenever they touched a human corpse it would cause a nuclear size explosion or something.

What I played of DS, I liked more than I've liked anything else that Kojima has ever done (with the possible exception of P.T.).

If he were ambitious, he'd know that form of narrative is universally garbage and only suited for bad children's books.

Kojima shows and tells, and it works great for the video game medium, especially with ideas as big as Kojimas. But there's a lot more to game making than the story.

I'm an editor, and I'd suggest that yeah, he needs an editor, but that editor needs a leash and a spray bottle to keep Kojima from sabotaging his own material. DS could have been solid narrative. It's solidly in the New Weird tradition, but does the one thing New Weird creators know not to do: explain (or in Kojima's case, over-explain) material, particularly when you haven't fully developed the idea.
