Having read them outside the hype zone, I'd certainly say better than Hunger Games, but I don't think they will hold up in the same way Tolkien's stuff has.

By nature of being targeted slightly older, and not being a series with no intended end, I'd say it's a step above those.

I read the first book when the first movie came out. Definitely not that bad but its YA so don't expect it to be totally amazing
