One thing that the General Managers I've had at my McDonalds has told me is "Everyones replaceable"

So trying that here would just get you fired

If McDonalds had to pay $19/hr they'd probably just hire a burger flipper/fry cook and get rid of all the other staff and have machines take and deliver orders

God I hope so. I love using the kiosks. The less real people I have to deal with in a retail situation, the happier I am.

Sounds like instead of complaining to McDonald's, they need to petition UK's Parliament to enact a higher minimum wage since some positions in other fields that require far more skill and knowledge don't even pay that much.

That's what they will do, and what those workers deserve. The entire McDonalds workforce could be replaced in a week, and the replacements would probably be better.

They want that (roughly double the current UK minimum wage), guaranteed hours, scheduling a month in advance, and recognition of unionization.

Millenials are thrifty

Millennials spend too much money instead of save it

Millennials need to move out of their parents houses

Millennials should just go earn more

I can't believe Millennials are asking for higher wages

Millennials need to upskill and get qualified

Millennials need to stop spending all their money on pointless qualifications education and enter the workforce sooner

Millennials need to stop getting dead end jobs

Millennials need a goddamn job, just get a job

Honestly millennials are so entitled

You know, it's funny....

Millennials are in their mid-20s to mid 30s at this point and have kind of aged out of the "get your act together" phase. Zoomers would be the one age-appropriate to talk about this stuff now as the oldest Zoomers are already graduating college.

Not really. Not having money because they took on 30K in college debt to get a useless major doesn't contradict anything.

And yet fast food places are constantly understaffed and the windows are covered with "Now Hiring" signs.

Those are actually two different things.

They're understaffed to keep labor costs down, and constantly "hiring" specifically to make damn sure any given employee is replaceable.

Right, that pretty much summarises the entire economic problem of milennials.

Nevermind that you need a college degree for entry level jobs today.

Nevermind that social security nets have completely eroded

Nevermind that employers are offering short term contracts for skilled and unskilled work, creating uncertaintly in the workforce

Nevermind that wages have stagnated while the cost of living has soared

Nevermind that previous generations started investing in property instead of living in it

No you're right, the only problems millennials ever faced is they stupidly got that communications degree! Dumb dumbs

If only they were smarter, they wouldn't be poor

lol at this. I think we all know where the "just get a degree and you'll be fine" mentality came from, and it wasn't millennials. That came from a generation that could follow that advice and be fine erroneously teaching their children that they could do the same.

Could it be the same generation that forced participation trophies on its children (to their great humiliation) and then blamed the children for receiving those trophies?

Because $19/hr is much closer to the baseline for a living wage than what McDonald's workers are currently paid in most places. And as Antifar said, Danish McDonald's workers have already successfully unionized to be able to demand higher wages. They've shown that if a collective of workers has the bargaining power to push McDonald's on this, then McDonald's can afford it. No reason they can't or shouldn't try to do it elsewhere.

To what degree should the government regulate wages

And you say "closer" as in its not high enough, why not just push to whatever your idea of high tough, im assuming high enough is an aggregate of living costs and a 40 hour work week?
