What I'm Eating Right Now: Original Cheddar Goldfish Pokemon Sword and Shield, the latest in Game Freak's long, lovable line of Antichrist paraphernalia, is a video game. I'm going to play it tomorrow night, at which time I may have further words. Those words will have to wait until an actual review is written, however, as this is the Quintotaku Pre-Review. My favorite thing about Pokemon Sword and Shield in the lead up to launch is that at least to the best of my knowledge none of the fans have been murdered for liking or disliking these unreleased video games, so at least there is that. I've gone to bat for Pokemon Sword and Shield in some areas and hit Pokemon Sword and Shield with the aforementioned bat in other areas. It's wild. I will neither confirm nor deny that I'll be choosing Sobble as my starter, except I will note for the record that to do otherwise is a literal sin. The score being this low already is bad news once the smaller reviewers come into play, or those who didn't get a review copy from Nintendo. At this point, the reviews are skewed towards the big boys, who are more likely to be paid off to give the game a good review score. I have ones that I named after places on road trips, ones that I stole from my friend's or cousin's gba after they were done with pokemon because I liked them (my friend had a spheal named "lusealball" which to this day is the best pokemon nickname I've ever seen) Pokemon in dream balls remind me of the time me and my ex-wife played the awful dream world browser game every day for a year. I have an entire living dex of emotional memories, and they're being taken away because "eh corporate reasons" It's like if facebook was to suddenly delete half of my my photos, or half of my messages without warning. I'm losing so many memories because a company I put thousands of dollars into over the course of my life, values new customers more than it's existing ones. I think it's ok to be devastated in this scenario, I think it makes sense to be angry. It also feels sucky when people who you viewed as fellow pokemon fans are so quick to dismiss you and toss you to the side and continue to enable a company that's been enabled for so long. Yeah sure it's a game, and yeah something like this was bound to happen eventually. It's something we have to move on from. Come on, this is ridiculously overdramatic. Nothing got deleted. Everything is still there, you can still use stuff in the Gen 7 games. We KNOW they're working on a transfer tool and it isn't ready yet (Bank was frequently like this too). We know via datamine that they're going to roll out some of the past starters and legendaries as special events. My most cynical possible take is that they'll keep cranking out yearly releases and selling the expanded roster as a "feature." This all deserves criticism. But I don't see how people view all this shit as gone forever. If I end up wrong then I'm wrong, but to me this is just gen 3 again. I know streamers were finishing it in like 15 hours but I spent six on it last night and only made it to right before the first gym.
