Holy fuck

People werent kidding when they say that these things are terrifying. Im working out in my basement doing underhand pulldowns trying to develop my latissimus dorsi when I look over and see that devil spawn dashing towards me. I turned off the light and split. Sure, I could have stepped on it but Im wearing my favorite sandals. Fuck that.

Why do these things even exist? At least spiders are bros.

Some bug called silverfish have been appearing in the house lately. Those things are weird looking, too. I think its time we start cleaning because theres so many items such as clothes from decades ago in old boxes.

Yeah. Apparently they can be good. But they'll still bite that ass and give you nightmares. Last one I seen was running across the blanket laying on me.

If they become a regular occurrence , Im definitely going to start wearing shoes in the basement more often.

How big was it? The smallest here in Australia is about 2cm (just shy of an inch), and the largest being 30cm (approx. 1 foot).

Time is a funny thing. There is always too much of it, except when you need it the most. Then there is never enough.

I've got a cherry red centipede in my collection right now, and its mean as hell. 8 inches of legs and hate. I really don't like house centipedes, but they are harmless. Any scolopendra centipede will make you hate life if it bites you. And they really want to bite you.

Hell, that's just a bad idea. Its always weird seeing vids of people handling the more potent inverts. Its being chill in that clip, but it doesn't take much to set them off. Just like the people who handle old world tarantulas, its not safe for the spider or the keeper.

yeah. I really like caterpillars so if there was some type that got that big, I would love to have them as pets. That centipede? Not even if it was venomless.

Even venomless (which would essentially kill the thing anyways) it would still be a very unpleasant experience. Those things have very sharp legs that they use to catch and kill prey while waiting for the venom to take effect. One that size could easily give him a dozen good pinches all at once up his arm.

and yes, for those unaware, those aren't fangs, they're actually legs that evolved to stab and inject venom

on the other side of the family tree, house centipedes use their thin, ropey forelegs to catch and basically ensnare prey, but i gotta be honest, for as many that live in my house, I have never ever seen one catch or eat any other bug

yeah, that's why I wouldn't want one. I can't even imagine the bite force on it too. I tried looking it up but I couldn't find it for that species.

I've been tempted to snag a house centipede and throw it in a small terrarium to see how well they take to it. But I've never had an empty tank the few times I've found a house centipede in the house. Might be interesting to see how they feed.

They aren't beginner inverts for sure. I've got several spiders that are technically more venomous, but they don't spook me half as much as the centipedes I've had.
