To a normal person, respect is simply being treated with the same basic dignity and decency that youd want to be treated with.

To a cop, respect is submit immediately and completely to my authority so when the evil bad sandwich eater didnt immediately strip naked, bend over, and spread his cheeks as soon as the cop laid eyes on him, that was the ultimate breach.

I love how he made those pleasure moans as he was eating his sammich after the cop told him (in surround sound) that he was detained for eating there illegally.

I remember when I was in Japan my family and I bought some of those tiny fried chicken pieces from a vendor at a festival, we were going to sit down somewhere else to eat, but that vendor asked us to eat it at the benches in front of the stand, since he probably thought that we were going to eat while walking (which is rude according to Japanese custom). So we did.

I hope we get an update on this eventually.

Whats sad is the best justice we can hope for is he goes to court and gets this wipe cleaned...keep in mind he wont be paid for any of his time there but the judge and cop both will be. Which gets to the heart of the issue. Quotas are now officially banned but unofficially strongly encouraged.

Is there a full video of this? Did the cop just go up and grab his bag? Or did he tell him that its against the rules to eat or drink there first? Because its leaving a lot to the imagination. Since you know, this guy isnt showing much respect either, so it helps to know if thats in response to the cop being a dick first, or if he was just disrespectful to the rules.

I knew the trains were off limits but don't remember if the platform was off limits. Like they were saying, it's pretty misleading that there's like a caf in the station, and I know it's multiple stations. There's also trash cans on most of not all platforms too.

There's really two points to this:
- surely another case of a cop being a shit bag. He could've just let the guy off with a warning if this really is rule.

- the guy is your patent bay area rebel who yells dumb shit to make the situation worse. The girl filming was going about it way better until the end. It's a bit of entrapment to possibly be charged with some escalated resistance of arrest, but dude was being a dumbass. I'm not totally sure either if the cop literally just decided to arrest him off the bat. For all we know it was just going to be a citation first (albeit that's still some bullshit)

As someone who used to regularly commute on BART, I've been fed up with the mess people leave in the trains and stupidly ignore the no eating sign right above them. If I have to take the train, I don't sit or grab anything. But even with that, this arrest is stupid.

I'd see the technicalities as to why food shouldn't be allowed on the platform. May screw with the tracks if people just throw it around - not crazy when people in SF freely shit everywhere on the street now. But still. That situation was a waste of everyone's time.

And even if the dude was being a pain, the cop should have better people skills then to have it come to that. No one wins in this one. Embarrassing. And you know if this was some white woman putting away a granola bar the cop 'wouldn't have seen it'

Ya, kinda seems like a basic human rights issue to me.
I wonder how much public funding that transit system gets as well.

Just seems like an asshole cop. Could have just told the guy to throw his sandwich away.

My guess is that he already did. He told the guy that it was a violation of California law, and the guy just replied with "So what?". That's just my speculation though, since they didn't record how the altercation started.

Oh wait, yeah. The cop told him that there's no eating.

Eh, it's close enough that you gotta be a dickhead to arrest someone for eating nearby the designated area. Those rules should only be there so people have to take responsibility when they actually fuck up.

It would of even been more reasonable to notify him that they don't want people eating there and to not do it in the future. But to immediately enforce it that intensely for a harmless act is beyond douchy.

People who defend this type of stuff just openly show what type of person they would be if they were to have control over others.

I already mentioned the guy didn't handle it the best way, but people tend to forget that cops aren't suppose to try and out petty the people they're suppose to be serving and protecting. You can't frame "Cop arrest guy for eating a chicken sandwich and lightly talking back" in a way that doesn't come off petty. Being stuck on the rulebook, no matter how petty it gets isn't a way I'd personally live. You might be down for a world that slowly babysits adults more and more but I'm not into it.

Yeah in the free area. Once you pass the part where you pay you can't eat.

While it's technically illegal this is the rough equivalent of pulling just a black guy out of a crowd of mostly white Jay walkers and giving just him a ticket and letting everyone else go.
