I prefer turn-based with a story that isn't fully up its own ass, but we already get those in other Square-Enix IPs. You could argue that Terra was more of a black mage, because while everyone got their magic from less than desirable origins (Kefka was experimented on, Celes was a product of those experiments, Relm and Strago's come from infusions carried down through their bloodline from the War of the Magi), hers was the product of an actual mutual coupling.
