So I'm contracted to work for a... not business.

I do certain consultation work on the applicants they are looking to hire, and tell them not to because they are worthless dirtbags who would do nothing but cost them money and trouble, in ways their internal screening department has been found to be failing to recognize. I get paid per screened applicant, with another payment for a more in depth screening of borderline trouble applicants they are thinking of hiring anyways because their vacancy rate (and turnover) is WAY too high.

That's what I do. This... isnt really about that. Kind of, but not really.

I went from roughly just under 10-15 to 15/20 plus applicants a day into the queue to screen, to about 3 to 4. So the drop in pay was slightly irritating.... but it's not why I helped out.

I solve problems, it's what I do, shits like putting a laser pointer in front of a cat. I cant NOT solve problems.

The problem was basically just a massive clusterfuck of communication between jobs, due to a combination of a 'new and improved' version of their connected work system, and this new manager wanting to engage in cross training between heavily specialized employees (which I agree is a good thing, but it depends on execution, you cant change EVERY position at once lol.)

Another part of the problem was the new and improved system was not playing nice with their old and not improved computers, along with all the word and excel files they had to have open to track everything, because the new and improved system STILL didnt offer an intuitive and practical way to quickly see the changes and status of what they needed to see, without a bunch of stuff they didnt need flooding in, and the directive to switch from their familiar word and excel applications to google sheets, also fine, but come on, incrementalize a bit.

They were losing applicants in the cracks, double calling other applicants about documents they already turned in, and just gumming up the works.

I come in once a week to see some applicants who have been deferred in person, and go over their second chance tests. So I came in last week and finally had enough.

In 20 minutes I completely unfucked their operations. It wasnt anything amazing, it was really basic, but it worked really well for them.

I organized their files on drive in this magical organizational tool called file folders, so employees would know where to find what they were looking for when they needed them, according to what category they were, instead of them literally being a massive block of everything. (Its... its 2019 people, GUI folders have been around since as long as I've been alive).

Then I went Into their trackers and made simple arrays with imported values linking the jobs that depend on results from one another, so that when one employee changes something that affects another employee, or another employee needs to be done before they can start what they do, it sends a little status update on the applicant to the other employees tracker sheets.

And everything was going great. But I forgot one crucial detail. A lot of Boomers are indignant incompetent spoiled jealous little shits.

On the important cells, I put a protected warning, not to mess with them, for when someone tried to edit the formula "Dont touch". Doesnt stop them, just warns them.

Well one of the department managers got all self indignant uppity and boomertastic....

And decided to change it or delete or... I dont know what the fuck they were thinking. And this was one of the lynchpin formulas, one of the ones that a lot of the other sheets fed off of. So after doing this, everyone's shit started having value, reference, and import errors. Like a rolling blackout.

Apparently they didnt know undo was a thing, or revision history was a thing.... but they fucked around for like... dozens upon dozens of revisions trying to fix it, before they brought it up to me this week when I came in.... and I just brought it back to the revision before the boomeracolypse in like 5 seconds.
