Board 8 > How would they do in a contest? Day 151 ft Captain America, Rocky, Emma Frost

This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Midcarder for Cap. low mid is acceptable, but I think he will be stronger than Iron Man or Hulk. He has had a stronger presence in games than the other 2, being playable in most general Marvel/Avengers games, and is very well liked in the MCU. And he's Captain America - the most 'Murican superhero to ever exist. Plus the Endgame memes.

Mid Fodder for Rocky - he was an icon in the 70s and 80s, but I feel that he's degenerated since then. Old man Sly Stallone keeps getting dragged out for more and more Rocky sequels. Voters might have seen Rocky Balboa, but I very much doubt Gfaqs cares about the Creed series. His impact on gaming has been limited too. I only don't put him lower because of how recognizable he is.

Emma Frost is Mid Fodder. I think she is pretty much stuck relying on TJF to get votes. She hasn't had a lot of game appearances and was not prominent in the 90s X-Men series or Evolution, despite her large popularity in the comics. I don't think her portrayal in X-Men First Class was especially popular either.

Captain America: Low Midcarder - Iron Man has been lionized as the main protagonist and audience surrogate of the MCU for so long that I would be shocked if he's not its most popular character, even on GameFAQs. I think Cap being weaker is pretty much inevitable as such. To me, the likes of Thor and the Hulk are better comparisons, especially considering that those two are fan-favorites, and the former's MCU series is actually continuing. I also doubt Cap's jingoism (however deemphasized in the MCU) and consistent presence in games GameFAQs voters don't actually care about do him any favors.

Rocky Balboa: Low Fodder - I'm not inclined to think any character from any 70s or before movie not called Star Wars is worth anything more.

Emma Frost: Mid Fodder

I get that logic for someone like Michael Corleone, but The Godfather hasn't had a movie since 1990 while Rocky is still going. Still fairly logical though.
