Found this in my mailbox today. They must be getting desperate, nobody buying Gillette shit anymore.

Do they still do the thing where they mail you a razor on your 16th birthday or whatever?

no one remotely said that. things like dollar shave club and cheaper store brand razors are whats hurting them....but keep crying about an ad that simply says "be a good person".

I got one in the mail and it said it was for a 16th birthday but Im 26. I do like the razor though.

They sent me a Mach3 on my 18th birthday, and a Fusion5 on my 21st.

I got like half a dozen DSC razors on the backburner because I don't shave all that much

I've been actively avoiding their other body care products though and I've discovered some wonderful brands along the way (like Arrid for deodorant/anti-persperant)

End of the day though, Degree pretty much offers the same stuff for about the same price

Lol, I got one of these too. I just started laughing at the desperation and that it was some old ass Mach 3.

They were getting hit pretty hard because of competition and then they made it worse with that commercial losing them even more customers, lol.

Thats what they get for selling overpriced razors and for trying to jump in on toxic masculinity train.

But if you're giving stuff away for free, that's proof you're doing bad as a company, it's economy 102, very high level stuff only the smartest of CEtizens would understand.

Gillette has cheaper competitors now when it comes to disposable grooming products. That's what is really hitting them in the ass in the shaving market. What a company often does when this happens is play up their " years of quality service" with advertisements to encourage faithful consumers to stick with the brand. The usual angle is "okay we cost a bit more than the competition, but you know you get quality with us ".

Too bad a large portion of Gillette's long time consumers (and their families) apparently did not respond well to the recent "controversial advertisement" viewed as criticizing men and masculinity. The whole "pay more for a quality brand" angle is not effective with consumers who are offended by the marketing. Not only were there male critics of the commercial of young to senior ages, many women were also offended commenting that the commercial did not make an honest effort to portray the positive aspects of masculinity and demonized innocuous forms of it (ie: "man attempts to approach a random woman"). Some critics did not even care about the gendered message itself, but were more disgusted that a shaving brand was pushing unnecessary politics into their bathrooms.

Whether you liked or disliked the commercial, Gillette did not strike as positive of a chord as they hoped with it. Many male and female consumers voiced negative reactions for it. The company's shaving products were already under longstanding criticism for pricing their female products higher than the male counterparts...

Bottom line: the commercial did not sink Gillette, but it certainly did not do much to pull in consumers. As far as appealing to their core target, the advert was a functional failure. It caused more criticism among the consumers than praise.

As someone who uses both Gillette and DSC razors, Gillette's are way better. I understand DSC is appealing for the cost, but those who say they are better too I strongly disagree.
