Joy-cons were fine, until the left stick started to drift. I then shelled out $30 for a wired controller, instead of a $70 Pro Controller. It's been less than a year and that controller's left stick is randomly becoming unresponsive.

It would be nice if a controller's joysticks could go a few fucking years before breaking. I've had secondhand bootleg PS3 remotes that have held out for a good 2-3 years, I would expect a brand new, out-of-the-box licensed controller to hold out for at least that long.

I'm extra salty because I'm playing Asphalt 9, and I'm keeping a pretty high rank - I can generally keep myself within the top 1000 racers in the game. But I just had three multiplayer races in a row where my joystick went completely fucking dead in the middle of a race, which means I can't steer.

I like the Switch, and I like Nintendo, but my experience with their controllers this gen has been horseshit.

For Joy-cons, it's basically just cleaning it until you're sure that it's not dirt fucking your joystick up. From there, you can either send it to Nintendo to get fixed, or you can buy a replacement joystick and fix it yourself/take it to a repair shop.

PowerA branded wired controllers, I don't know.

this sums up my feelings on the switch in general, conceptually it's a great device but it's so shoddily made

The current standard fix (or at least it was the last I heard) for joycon drift is to contact Nintendo for a free replacement

I know the pro controller is expensive, but it's worth it. One of the best controllers I've ever used.

What, this isn't Resident Evil? Dying means nothing. It's simply a minor setback, if that.-radioraheem

It feels nice enough, but it costs between $80 and $100. The Switch itself cost $400 when I got it - I'm hesitant to pay a quarter or a fifth of the console's price for a functional controller.

I'll have to look into this. I got my Switch over a year ago, so I'm worried the warranty might be up.

Another solution is factory resetting the joycons in the settings menu. This worked for me for a bit, then it started drifting again. I havent checked for dirt though, so maybe thats my issue.

Maybe I should try that, but my left joy-con is physically loose. I have a feeling it's too far gone for a factory reset.
