Not directly. Lor San Tekka (Max Von Sydow at the beginning) said upon giving Poe the map that "this will begin to make things right". The map that was to lead to Luke.

That said, Tekka is a pretty devout member of the Church of the Force. I wouldn't be surprised if they specifically viewed Luke as a Messiah.

Leia was gung-ho about finding Luke, but I tend to think of that less as "only he can save us" and more "I miss my brother, want to help him, and hey having a Jedi on our side might not be all that bad either".

I don't see why anybody would WANT that in Star Wars. Its fucking gross.

My apologies. Allow me to rephrase.

I don't know why anyone comes into a Star Wars criticism topic, posts no text but embeds a YT video of a person's head on a Star Wars still background, and expects anyone to watch given the massive inundation of YT talking heads and their exhaustive critique of Star Wars in the last few years, particularly on the subject of Last Jedi.

It's literally a laugh at how the trailer is at odds with TLJ. You don't need to watch it, but getting upset over it enough to post this snarky reply is weird.

You take this star wars shit too seriously Cyric.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Nobody is trying to troll you. But you take anything that goes against your opinion on Star Wars personally for some reason.

Why do you even come into these topics in the first place? We get it, you like The Last Jedi. Some people don't. Let people who don't like it bitch, and stick with topics that praise it.

I don't deny that I'm a big Star Wars fan and have argued a lot in the past, but I don't see how that invalidates my point, or validates your post.

Hell, it bugs me when people do this for just about anything.

It's kinda valid considering there was a whole movie dedicated to the idea that he was going to single-handedly wreck the FO.

Luke himself mocks that idea near the beginning. It's less about "Luke has a high enough power level to solo the first order" and more about "The first order has Snoke and Kylo Ren, so the resistance needs their own champion to match them."

You don't see how this is not what 7 established?

7 established that the Resistance believes it. 7 also established that Luke got pwnt hardcore by an eight-year-old and spent the next 20 years angsting about it in self-imposed exile, and that eight-year-old is now heading up a gang of superpowered edge-knights with similar abilities, so maybe those beliefs aren't entirely well-founded.

Star Wars isn't even that complex. I feel like all the reasons provided for why Like didn't die fighting them and wrecking their shit were just cop outs.

I really don't think there is enough story material in the films to find these elaborate theories for why a powerful Jedi like Like couldn't have wrecked the First Order's shit before going down. It certainly would've been a much more badass moment.

Then ignore it?

You posting a snarky reply about how you don't understand why someone posts a video nobody will watch is just funny considering you go into topics you hate, to argue points nobody is going to agree with or really care about.

It's why I said I think you might take this Star Wars stuff too seriously, is all. If you like TLJ that's fine, I'm not going to argue that you're wrong or try to invalidate a point. Sometimes a video is just a video. Feel free to ignore it as the video wasn't even directed at you in the first place.

Fresh off seeing 4-8 for the first time, I don't have a problem with it. Luke is just one man. He would get absolutely slaughtered and buy the Resistance no time.

My main issue with it is that it's just so damn boring. They have a potentially interesting plot line with Finn and Rose and completely waste it by having them save some bad CGI animals from the big bad rich guys who we don't know or care about. And don't even get me started on how the best character in the ST (Poe) is stuck on a ship doing fuck all for the entire film.

It could be salvageable if the Luke/Rey scenes were good but I couldn't stand the way Luke was written at all.

If Luke was going to die anyway, why not just show up on the battlefield in person and wreck Kylo's army? Why waste such a good character on such a cheap scene? That scene on the battlefield had so much potential to be top cinema.

Maybe instead he couldve battled the FO army, have him going around like Thor and take out wave after wave of stormtroopers.

He could leap on top of an ATAT Walker and use the force to be able to punch his way through the roof, set it to explode then leap and grab onto a Tie Fighter.

He can cut his way through, throw the pilot out and then go around shooting down other fighters. Just like shooting womp rats back home

Then when the ship gets shot he leaps out and the ship crashes into the head of another ATAT Walker

Back on the ground he uses the force to push an ATAT on its side and create a domino effect.

Then he uses the force to explode all the Tie Fighters in the air. He walks towards the camera, his back facing the battlefield as the tie fighters explode like fireworks in the sky.

All the while Led Zeppelins Immigrant Song is playing.

Wait, that was supposed to be an 8 year old Adam Driver we were seeing in the flashback?

I assumed Kylo was maybe 15 and Luke had been in exile for like 5 to 10 years.

If he was 8 years old & 20 years went by...Snoke never helped him to complete his training in all that time? wtf
