The article is suggesting getting rid of interviews and resumes, so they are the ones suggesting you be treated differently.

Sometimes you need to treat people differently in one aspect to treat them the same in another. Autistic people will always be left behind if you hold the same expectations as you do others. It's not unfair to make things fair for the disadvantaged. No one would tell a wheelchair-bound person that they're getting special treatment because we don't force them to use stairs. It's not really special treatment when it's making things fair and equal.

If someone isn't on the bad end of disabled or lucky enough to score some government help, then they are at a significant disadvantage at getting employed compared to the non-disabled.

Ill concede that its not new, but this is the first Im hearing of it. How long has it been around for?

I would consider it special and counterproductive if de-stigmatizing the actual medical diagnosis is the goal, but then again Im not really a linguistics expert so take that viewpoint with a grain of salt.

Why do we need interviews and resumes? All they do is create more work for everyone. In fact the very concept of jobs and work won't even exist in the future. Superintelligent AI will take care of all your wants and needs. Read the book life 3.0 if you don't believe me

the 90s at least

I would consider it special and counterproductive if de-stigmatizing the actual medical diagnosis is the goal

the goal is replacing the system with one that doesn't depend on the existence of an underclass that is disproportionately filled with disabled people

This term it's great, because it highlights that diversity can exist outside of literal skin color. Just don't be surprised if a "neurodiverse" crowd still gets shit on because they all "look the same".

True, it's not a secret that diversity has traditionally meant non-white, non-male and non-straight. It will be interesting to see if people, who typically champion diversity, argue just as loudly and aggressively in favor of diversity of thought and so on.

My guess is no. No, they wont.

The article is suggesting getting rid of interviews and resumes, so they are the ones suggesting you be treated differently.

Instead of using CVs and interviews, potential employees undergo a basic competency assessment in which they are evaluated against 25 desirable attributes for software testers, such as the ability to learn new systems or take on feedback. Following these initial tests, potential staff undergo a week of working from home fully paid. Potential recruits also know they can choose to work on a DTE (a desired-time equivalent) timetable, meaning they can take on as many hours as they feel comfortable managing, rather than being tied into full-time work.

As a result, we have a talent screening process to take someone who has never done this job and at the end of that process have a 95% degree of confidence whether people would be great at this, says Anandan.

It's not like they're just given a job. Also this is a business that is specifically looking for autistic employees.

Who are all these autistic people that are trying to find employment but being refused for their affliction? Is it similar to how "nice guys" or incels are trying to find a woman? Got rejected the all of one time they tried so all women are bitches/whores, clearly.

Last time I checked there wasn't a box to check on applications for whether you were autistic or not. I've also never been asked that question in an interview. Employers only care that you show up for work and do the job. They don't give a fuck if you have depression, anxiety, ADHD, whatever. Just get shit done.

I can see how anyone that isn't high-functioning would see barriers to employment, but in those instances shouldn't they be on some sort of social assistance anyway? They probably can't hold down a regular job.

Research by the UKs National Autistic Society (NAS) shows that the figures around employment of people with autism in the UK are still very low. In its survey of 2,000 autistic adults, just 16% were in in full-time work, despite 77% of people who were unemployed saying they wanted to work.

That excerpt doesn't mean a whole lot, because there is a difference between wanting to work and being fully capable of working.
