Michael Cera fucking sucks.
As for what comedies are "in" right now, that's honestly kind of a difficult question to answer. Movies that are strictly comedies have been pretty consistently bombing in the box office the past few years. If anything, I'd say a lot of hybrid films, like horror comedies, are really making a rise as of late. Get Out, Us, Ready Or Not; even the shitty B horror movies like Truth Or Dare and Escape Room have been incorporating more comedic elements and as a result, while not making them good movies, they're significantly more enjoyable as a result. So if anything, I guess I'd say dark comedies are the ones that are really standing out on their own; more light heated comedy has more blended itself into more mainstream action films like the MCU films and such. --- "She was like, 'Oh, did you see that firefighter? Kitt posted...EverDownward posted...I still believe he was the wrong person to play Scott PilgrimAgreed 100% Ramona was easily the second biggest offender. I don't want to say that the actress was miscast - and I know the internet has unnatural love for her - but good golly she was lifeless. I know that anime-ish expressions are an exaggeration of real life to put it mildly, but book-Ramona actually smiled, and laughed, and shouted in anger, and other various human emotions. Someone in production must have instructed her that hipster chicks are required by law to be dead inside. Also the actress playing Knives was fine, but it undercuts the whole 'Scott Pilgrim's Dating a High Schooler' bit when she looks five years older than Michael Cera. --- Simple questions deserve long-winded answers that no one will bother to read. ... I dont have any familiarity with the comics but he seemed to do fine in the movie, what is the complaint about his performance specifically? The book version of Scott Pilgrim is an outwardly likeable yet obliviously self-absorbed slacker who uses those closest to him, is slightly jockish, has a surprising knack at being a ladykiller, and is best hand-to-hand fighter in the entire province. So naturally, when looking for an actor who checks all these boxes, you turn to George Michael Bluth. --- Simple questions deserve long-winded answers that no one will bother to read. ... The biggest issue with Ramona was they completely re-wrote her personality to fit the hipster girl stereotype, which I guess I see what they're trying to go for since SP goes out of its way to make fun of that stuff. But compared to her graphic novel counterpart who is full of life personality-wise, Ramona in the film just seemed like an odd approach to that character. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!
