5th Grade Teacher, Emma Howland-Bolton from Lansing, Michigan spaked outrage after she wore a "Columbus was a Murderer" T-Shirt to school as she wanted to highlight the torturing of Indigenous People when the ungrateful european savages founded America!!

She's a teacher at Clippert Multicultural Magnet Honours Academy and said "I wanted to wear this shirt to spark discussion"..and it sparked plenty as the school admin asked her to remove it and that her shirt was her opinion but she countered it with fact

When Columbus 'discovered' the New World in 1492, millionsofpeople were already inhabiting the Americas. He made 4 expeditions tot he Carrbiean and South America over 2 decades, during that time her enslaved and destroyed local populations

That's why there has been a push to change Columbus Day to Indigenous People's Day by cities, states and schools and that it's important to move away from glorifying the mistreatment and colonization of Native Americans by Columbus

Emma wanted to spark a discussion because the country is taught to believe that Columbus is an An American Hero and she wanted the truth of his atrocities to be known as well

The Detroit Public Schools claims the issue first grabbed their attention because the shirt does not follow the official dress codeand that SWEATERS are NOT permitted within their business casual attire

She did not face any discipline for this however

He is neither a hero or a mass murderer. He really is more a name attached to a significant moment of time who had far less impact than his mythology suggests.

She should be the teams mascot and rename the teams the giraffes
