It's mainly a 2D platform shooters but yes you can categorize it as a horror game too since that's what they are aiming for.

Im upset I didnt play this until this year. Game had a delightfully chilling atmosphere, but I wasnt the least bit scared.

I would say it has atmospheric horror elements. Very reminiscent of the alien franchise, obviously

You know what Nintendo should do? Remake Metroid Fusion in 3D, and have the SA-X actually roam the game world like the Xenomorph in Alien: Isolation. That would be a great game.
