Got a huge PS4 backlog, myself. Wasn't interested at all until they announced it would be backwards compatible with the PS4. Probably get one sooner than later, but not at launch.

Fucking idiots know it work work well, implement new shit just to please the stockholders at meetings who think games want "change and innovation" , and then replace/change to the dualshock 5 down the line to get 1st day buyers to fork out more cash for a non-gimmick controller

I'll buy it when a must have exclusive for myself comes out of course, because like all people I'm only in it for the games

It'll be just over 7 years since the PS4 launched. That's actually on the long side for a console generation. Most are 6 years.

Sounds like controllers are going to be more expensive with more shit to potentially go wrong with them, requiring the purchase of a replacement controller.

PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 so that's one less problem.
Still the first year or so of any consoles life is always the worse. Not many exclusive games, kinks need ironing out and the price is often high so there is no rush for me to buy this. I will however buy one at some point.

I could try. Problem is I prefer to collect the launch models of a console so it depends how soon they revise it. I had a huge PS2 backlog at the time but wanted the 60gb PS3 before it was gone. I'm probably the only person who'd actually buy a console without opening it immediately. The PS4 was different as I only spent $24 out of pocket.

I'm aware, that's how long they used to be. Then more games started coming out thanks to indies and now I'd prefer they float closer to the 10 year mark the PS3 had. Not that a gen ends immediately upon launch of the next.

Like I said, when you simplify it to "new stuff was added" sure. But not when you look at what was added compared to what is being added.

The things that were added then were mostly unnecessary. The things that are being added now are mostly unnecessary. In both cases controllers will become more fragile and expensive.

I find both scenarios more or less equivalent.

Keep in mind, I'm not saying this is a GOOD thing. I'm still pissed from controllers jumping from $25 to $50 when it seemed like the only real change was a shitty battery pack I'd rather not use anyway.
