Besides the US they also tried to appeal to the British and even the Canadians.


For different reasons, I'm sure. They can appeal to the spirit of multiple nations in different ways even if those nations would historically have been contradictory examples.

For example, I'm sure they're appealing to the British because they're the ones that had previously given them the freedoms that China would take away, not because they used to be an empire.

As bad as aspects of the US are you can say what you want and not go to jail or have your organs removed against your will. That's pretty cool to some people.

Have you been to Hong Kong? Exciting place but the hyper capitalism there is even stronger. Families of 4 will squeeze into 300 sqft apartments coz it's all they can afford. I'm sure many would love to be living in the US. Believe it or not we actually do treat our poor better here
