TBH you can just do this but you need to be motivated and intelligent to a certain degree

Depends. If you want to be a software engineer, you will probably have a lot of trouble. If you want to be a web developer you might have less issues if you have some personal sites or general experience.

If you want to go into IT (which is paid less than programming positions) it might give you a decent shot but you would want to get some professional certifications as well.

CS isn't really practical, unless you're going into systems engineering.
If you're looking at an AS, double down in Full Stack something while you're doing it.

I majored in CS and sorta wish I hadn't since most companies don't even care about a degree. You can just learn on your own and it'll take you as far as anyone with a degree 99% of the time tbqh.

Even Google doesn't care about a degree anymore.

I know people who have no degree or an unrelated degree and still work in IT. Self taught.

a buddy of mine got his BA in economics & wanted a career change, so he enrolled into a local university's coding bootcamp. the program lasted a few months and when he graduated he was able to get a job coding.

as proudclad said, a lot of coding jobs dont really care about a degree if you have the skills/portfolio to back it up. usually you just need a BA in general to get past the HR requirements

That being said, for most people it will be a lot easier to get good pay with a CS degree. And you'll likely know and retain a lot more of the fundamentals. A coding camp won't fill in those gaps and it will take time learning on your own.

If you are in no rush and want the best position, a CS degree + some hot internships while you are a student is the best path for long-term growth and success.

A coding bootcamp might get you into a random job that doesn't pay so we'll and it'll be a grind to learn quickly enough, but it can be done.
