Even though only 2 of the 5 Mario and Luigi games were amazing, the other 3 were decent and had some enjoyable parts as well. Dream Team never stopped me from buying Paper Jam.
But the remakes of SSS and BiS were totally unnecessary and who knows, maybe even helped to get them into this situation

That sucks, I love Mario and Luigi games, and Paper Jam's flaws were mostly caused by the "New Super Mario Bros" uniform Nintendo was forcing at the time.

I understand remaking Super Star Saga as a budget game swan song but the BiS remake was probably the worst possible timing.

I still hope they can make more M&L games though.

On the one hand, I like M&L and it's always sad when a good team goes out of business and people lose their jobs.

On the other... if the M&L series ends, Paper Mario might go back to being RPGs...

It does annoy me if it's true though. I mean, yes, the 3DS is dead. But THIS game being the reason for Nintendo to decide to kill it? hmm no? how about realizing that this is the most pointless remake of all time?
Even if it was released in the 3DS prime it would have sold badly (not THAT bad, but bad enough)

the other 3DS plans were probably just more ports and remakes. I think all the A-teams were going to be focused on the Switch regardless.

Yeah, that Spooky Justice Wario tweet has been making the rounds, but I'm highly skeptical. Even before the BIS remake released (and subsequently bombed), Nintendo's upcoming 3DS slate was anemic as hell. There could have been a couple unannounced projects which got the axe following the poor BIS (and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn) performance, but even if they existed, I can't imagine they were substantial.

Nintendo also buried their 3DS releases after Captain Toad, either with ridiculously low print runs (Yo-Kai Watch 3, Yo-Kai Watch Blasters) or minimal marketing (Luigi's Mansion, WarioWare Gold). So there's that too.

The Link's Awakening remake has been rumored for 3DS and has been hinted at since 2016 (before the Switch launched) and they were probably going to do a dual release for 3DS like Captain Toad. I can see the low sales of BiS causing the 3DS version to get cancelled.

I love Bowser's Inside Story. It might be my favorite Mario RPG (it's tight between that and TTYD), and I had zero interest in that remake. The new graphical style looked worse than the original, and a new mode featuring Bowser Jr.? No thanks.
