Rich people literally need to hire professional chefs -- who spend their entire work week to prepare their meals .

I'll agree that proper food prep takes a while, probably a prohibitively long time for some, but 30 hours a WEEK? Even my longest estimate is way shorter than that.

Let's assume 2 hours of food prep on average (way more than any reasonable average). Since most things that take 2 hours involve waiting for things to cook, we can do most of our cleanup during that time. Then half an hour of cleanup at the end.

17.5 hours.

Add in a grocery run. Actually, make it two so your ingredients are super fresh. Assume you're a super slow shopper so it takes 2 hours per trip. And you live half an hour away from the grocery store, so 2 hours total driving time.

23.5 hours.

And you're also super indecisive so it takes you a full hour to plan a week of meals.

We're still under 25 hours and we've taken a ludicrously long time at every step of the process.

This is if you buy the same exact shit in mass quantities every week or month. The problem is that you want fresh and varied as well. Having to eat teriyaki grilled chicken every few days would suck.

I dunno, I just order one of those meal kit services and it's hardly a stretch on my time or budget (I just bounce around between them all using the promotional pricing). I get the 3 meal kits with 2 servings each and they take like an hour to cook at most and because I'm #foreveralone, I save half and get two feedings out of each one I cook (usually pick ones that make for decent leftovers)

Any other meals, I do low effort stuff like a sandwich, fruit/veggie plate, canned soup/stew, frozen pizza etc, or end up eating out (usually limit myself to 2-3 times a week going out)

Uh no, this is for a different meal every day of the week, and there's nothing stopping you from picking all different meals the next weeks either. How does going to the grocery store TWICE A WEEK mean buying the same stuff in bulk quantities? You're being silly.

Also I ran out of planned meals yesterday and didn't want to go shopping today so I'm cooking up some dal with just random stuff I had lying around. Like, it's cooking while I respond. Delicious, healthy, cheap, and the ingredients keep well.

It was really good, is there some platonic ideal of dal I'm supposed to be comparing it to so I can be disappointed by it?

I honestly like my recipe more than any restaurant dal I've had.

"fresh" is the big economic factor here imo. you really have to plan your meals to make that part work

not sure what is meant by "wholesome" -- seems kinda vague

but it's not that hard to make things that are both tasty and nutritious. a bag of frozen vegetables can go a long way with the right herbs and spices

Poorer people work longer hours so they don't always have the time or energy to prepare fresh food. Fresh food goes bad fast so it isn't always the best affordable option.

Complete nonsense. I cook healthy, nutritious, tasty fresh food in about 7 hours a week. People exaggerate how difficult it is so that they have a better excuse not to do it. I have the 'privilege' of severe food allergies that don't give me that freedom.

I don't care if this is true or not. the fact is, if you get the right herbs and spices in the mix and you have some basic competence in the kitchen, you can make a good-tasting meal using frozen vegetables.

restaurants are a completely different thing, and it's unfair to use them as the benchmark for whether or not something is "tasty", especially when it's such a subjective term

If you're that upset at the idea, you can take things more likely to go bad and slap-chop them into a salsa. The citrus will keep the flavor longer.

There's a million ways to do it right and cheap, but at this point it's obvious you're trolling.

I'm looking for a VARIETY of meals that are--

FRESH (like it was just cooked)
TASTY (that you can get from 2-star restaurants or higher)
WHOLESOME (fills you up so that you're both satisfied and energetic)
HEALTHY (lean proteins, small amounts of gluten, less bad sugars and carbs, and ZERO trans-fats).

If you can't fulfill all four of these, then you're just trolling in this topic.
