I'm sorry but when it comes to rapping I feel like you need a certain kind of urban swag to make it sound and look right and these dudes have none of that(and it's not because they're White). They're rhymes just sounds wack, they are un-melonic and just straight up weird. The sound like the kinda rap that was aloud for skaters with "rap sucks" on their boards to listen to.

Same here. Always felt they were pretty weak. Sabotage is a fun song but that's about it for me.

Not to mention that, when you listen to them now, you realize that like every single part of their songs are sampled from elsewhere. Like EVERYTHING. They couldn't even exist nowadays for all the massive amount of sample fees they would be paying out which they didn't regulate back then.

Maybe it's me but a band entirely built on sampling other peoples' work just isn't going to rate as highly for me.

More a sign of the times. They've definitely got a late-80's/early 90's feel to their music. Heck, listen to the Fresh Prince's albums from back then and those sound just as cheesy.

The best is they opened for Madonna's Like a Virgin tour and they were absolutely hated by the crowd. Madonna's people wanted them removed from the tour but she fought to keep them since it made her look so much better by comparison. That gal's smarter than we realize.

They were terrible rappers. Like, really really bad. But if you take their music as a whole, it's very innovative and experimental, much moreso that the majority of hip-hop acts before or since.

I don't particularly like the Beastie Boys, but I do respect their contributions
