My wife has taught 5th grade for 10 years, and to see how much kids have already changed (for the worse) makes me nervous for what my kid will have to deal with. Kids really suck.

You're definitely going to have to fight at least one parent. Start stretching.

What's some of the stuff she's noticing? I don't have kids or really know anyone that interacts with them on a regular basis. Just more bullying and general shittiness?

Well if she's anything like the school teacher whore I know she's more referring to the parent's that non stop get involved with stupid questions and never accept blame for why their kids are fucking stupid. They come home and get on Call of Duty and the parent's can't connect the dots. It's alllllllways the teacher. Sometimes it is, but most of the time it's the parents.

Yes the shitty parents are a big catalyst.

The violent bullying seems worse now. A group of kids beat up another kid last year and broke his arm. This was during recess iirc.

This year there is a kid body shaming and making very explicit sexual remarks and borderline threats to every girl in the grade. The kid is also the most popular kid in the grade with both the boys and the girls.

The first girl to come forward was afraid to do so since everyone likes him so much. And then he proceeded to bully her on the bus for doing so.

I think what really pisses me off is that there are no consequences for these kids (unless the parents are punishing them at home...fat chance). The schools give no shits about protecting the other students. Some of these kids need to be completely removed from the classroom setting.

Home schooling is probably gaining more popularity. I haven't looked into it but they have online college so why not?

It is easy to blame schools but a lot is on todays parents. Im generalizing now but they abandon their responsibilities and expect school and the rest of society to their job for them. Children are not taught decency nor how to perform basic tasks like getting yourself dressed or how to manage yourself when you need to use the restroom. Parents are too busy having a career and engaging in self-fullfilment.

Im not a teacher but I work with healthcare and kids and have a lot of contact with teachers and it is appalling how kids are raised these days to be honest.

Schools are just day care centers now. I got a friend who told me his wife who is a principal at a local school, have a summer school program for elementary students. If you reaaaaaally have to send your kid to summer school in elementary school, it's time for the parents to take notice.

it's a parent problem. bullying never got this bad during the time in schools from 1992-2004.
people probably say the same thing in they're years.

Local community sports. Where in pee wee t-ball, the parent who thinks it's the 17th inning storms the field and fights the 11 year old pitcher.

that smug pricks face in the "now" picture.

but yeah, parents want to blame the teachers more than their kids or themselves.

if a kid is acting up in school and doesn't want to learn. they won't learn. it is also very difficult to focus on each individual student in a class size of 30+. so a student who actually needs extra help can't get it because the teacher has 29 other students to keep up with. that is where the parents come in at home. to assist where they can with their childs school work.

there are many bad teachers in the school systems, but there are even worse parents. and as far as bullying goes, lord help the parent of the child who attempts to bully my kid and does nothing about it.

same goes for my kid. if my kid is a bully i'll be sure to straighten that shit out real quick.

Noble intent, but bullying is a weird case. It seems the majority of the time, bullying only exists because a parent is fucking up badly in some way, and if not that, the kid was just born naturally evil or psychotic. Rarely does a kid with good stock and good parenting ever actually start up with that jackassery in the first place.

I could see a good kid falling in with a couple jackasses and feeling pressured to take part in their bullying (lighter bullying only)

100% true, but there are also instances where your kid can just be following the crowd.

not being inherently bad just because they want to "fit in". Peer pressure and all.
