This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

The Terminator/T-800 (The Terminator) - High fodder

Haven't seen Alien. Don't see Ripley beating Mid Fodder though.

Michael Myers (Halloween) - Low fodder

I was never really into slashers movies but I'd figure Freddy and Jason, while still probably really weak, would be more recognizable? Age is an issue too; most of the big slasher franchises are about as old as the user base here or even older. Plus these have a reputation for turning into phoned-in endlessly-regurgitated crap that makes AAA video games look really great by comparison. These movies do have a fanbase but I don't think it's on gamefaqs.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Ripley. Her look may not be iconic, but her name and role are. She also provided the basis for Ridley's name and inspired the character of Samus Aran herself. That said Ripley hasn't appeared in a movie in 22 years, and the most relevance she's had since then was in cameos and DLC in Alien: Isolation.

I think Michael is Mid Fodder. He may not be as big of an icon as Freddy or Jason, but the Halloween movie series has held up better than NoES or Friday the 13th, which have a lot of terrible films in their libraries. And a relatively recent movie can never hurt.

Agree with High Fodder for T-800. Arnold's Terminator is iconic and everyone knows his famous lines, plus Gfaqs is in the perfect age range to have seen Terminator 2 as kids. But his robotic personality will hold him back from having legitimate strength in comparison to popular game characters.

nominations:

John Rambo (Rambo)
Rocky Balboa (Rocky)
Slimer (Ghostbusters)
Mr. Incredible (The Incredibles)
Chris Taylor (Platoon)

I agree completely with Axem's Low Fodder vote and reasoning for Michael Myers. The recent movie (which wasn't even all that well received even though it cleaned up at the box office) isn't going to help enough on GameFAQs of all sites.

I'm just not feeling what everyone else is on T-800. I voted High Fodder for Optimus Prime, who has the one-two punch of an animated series with prominent reruns in GameFAQs's ideal early/mid 90s nostalgia zone and greater pop cultural prominence in general. By comparison, all T-800 has is two well-liked (not quite beloved) movies, one of which, for an R-rated movie, is too old to hit the nostalgia zone here, and the other of which is also R-rated, so the average 30-35 year old GameFAQs user is unlikely to be overly nostalgic for it. As such, I favor Mid Fodder for him.

As for Ellen Ripley, take T-800, sub in even older movies, subtract truly iconic character design and any shred of modern relevance, and you get Low Fodder.

In general, I highly question whether most GameFAQs users would be inclined to vote for a movie character on a video gaming website just because they happen to like the movie in question, and that goes double for characters without highly iconic designs or relevant video gaming legacies.

Nominations:
Chase McCain (LEGO City Undercover)
Green Biker Dude (Mega Man X)
Lakitu (Mario)
Kylo Ren
Max Rockatansky
Mr. Incredible
Rawk Hawk (Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door)
Rocky Balboa
Slimer
Whispy Woods (Kirby's Dream Land)
