flight stick was best. that's how i played it back in the day. I don't know if it would be the same without a flight stick. I miss those days of space combat flight sim games with sticks. I wish they the genre would make a revival and new flight sticks would be made. i don't know if they get made anymore cause no games are really being made to use them

oh wait...sorry. I'm thinking of Freespace 1. I played that. never played the sequel. but yea, same idea still

I played Freespace 1 with a Microsoft Sidewinder (seen below since there's a lot of different ones apparently), and it was great. Always wanted to play the second one but never managed to get into it.

It's perfectly playable with a mouse/keyboard, at least on normal difficulty. Sometimes you'll have to do some mouse swooping when targeting an enemy that wants to be on your six.
