A drop in the carbon bucket? Maybe, but we need our leaders to lead by example. That said, it is still a LOT of emissions. Look at Trump or Trudeau, for example. How many private flights have they been on?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_international_presidential_trips_made_by_Donald_Trump

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_international_prime_ministerial_trips_made_by_Justin_Trudeau

Each 'trip' is equal or close to equal that of a typical citizen's yearly carbon emissions. Basically, Trudeau, for example, in 4 years has emitted the same carbon amount that a person would over the course of most of their working life.

That's a stupid comparison to make. It's like saying they spend a lot more money on personal security than the average person. No shit. They are the elected leaders of our country, and their job is to go and talk with other countries and figure shit out at the high level.

One swipe of their pen is all it takes for their actions to result in the reduction of billions of tons of carbon, far outweighing the flights they took to facilitate it.

Let's be honest bro, you don't really care about climate change. You just want some way to stick it to the politicians. A ha ha gotcha moment.

Why in god's name was it even relevant to mention that she has Asperger's? And you mentioned that and her being a 16 year old girl before you mentioned her defining feature which is speaking on the climate. Gross, dude.

So what I gather is that you think they should be above us? They should lead by example - there is no real reason in modern society to need to travel to meet in person. Everything can be done remotely; especially when dealing with issues that are being antagonized by travelling.

I think that the amount of carbon contributed by their flights is so miniscule that it's pointless to dwell on it. But I'm glad you're so concerned for global emissions that you're a hawk even for their flights! That kind of fervor is very welcome, you should spend this energy lobbying for reduced emissions across the government, including the military, via massive investment into electric airplanes, a smart grid, better roads, and more trees!

Nice topic. I been wondering who that girl was.

Ya know, im on the total opposite side politically from the Bern, but I dont give a flying fuck if he gets elected. For two reasons:

1. Im wrong, hes right, and he makes America a better country. At the end of the day, I want whats best for the USA and its people. I want prison reform, legal marijuana, reduced penalties for drug offenses, end foreign wars. My problem is, i doubt he could actually get it done. And I think he would go way further than id like with some things.

2. Im right , and when he falls flat on his dumb old face, i never have to hear these socialist morons bleating again.

Same reason i wasnt ass flustered by Obama. He got his chance, he didnt really do shit, we dont have to hear about how there is no black president anymore. Now we can have our first old, socialist president. I dont give a shit, im sick of the status quo. But.. Trump will smoke Bern like a blunt.

I'm on my phone, getting ready for bed, so too lazy to type up a giant response for why there is hope and what positive trends have been happening since 2015. So suffice it to say that it's not a lost fight at all. If I thought there was good evidence for giving up hope, I'd save my breath and just party and never give a damn about this subject.

I agree that the biggest carbon emissions are not typical citizens either, but the governments are pushing it like it is. We need to go after the multi-billion dollar industries instead. When the industries are held accountable, then we can see proper change and reduction in emissions.

what? the fact that renewable is cheaper and more effective? wont make a dent with fossil fuel companies keep pushing their agenda

carbon technology capture? barely making a dent.

genetic engineering won't have enough time for development or implementation to help our crops, which in turn ties into the envinroment. nothing will help the massive loss of biodiversity, especially in tropical area where it house thousands of species per hectare square. desertification is already starting everywhere, average ocean is acidifying because it absorb carbon from the air. the last time the ocean turned this acid is the end of the permian era, where there are huge spikes in CO 2 that cascade into the earth's first extinction event.

If you really believe this bullshit, why do you post it? What do you hope to get out of it? Are you trying to suck away any positivity or hope at all? Is that how vile and toxic you are as a human being that even when you believe it's all hopeless, you want to stifle anybody else from being positive or optimistic?

If you really believed this horseshit you'd be spending your time having fun, instead you are shitposting on gamefaqs.

Literally putting herself and her family out there, way out of the comfort zone, to speak about the single most important issue of our generation and the next several generations.

And she's doing so much to move the cause forward.

She's a fucking badass and a wonderful human being. Literally pulling herself up by the bootstraps to spread a message worth spreading, and to bring more attention to the one thing we should unite against as a species.

I could only get 2 seconds into that video.

It's cringey and the whole thing seems very self-congratulatory. "Look at me world, I suffered the hardships of taking a boat and skipping school or whatever and now I'm world famous, wow aren't I an inspiration"

Why can't we just get experts out in public speaking out and detailing things? Hell, bring Al Gore back. What the fuck does she know? She comes off as self satisfied and condescending, and as a 16 year old foreign girl speaking to world leaders that's not an endearing look.

Maybe she's connecting with like tweens or something and helping them get inspired, but hopefully we'll be on the right track by the time their vote means anything.

No it shows she's a meme. The story is about her and not even about climate change.

If every major news outlet found the same very interesting rock in a hospital and started spamming their front page and youtube feeds with videos about the rock, and the story of the rock, we wouldn't go "oh good, finally we are talking about heathcare because the rock was in a hospital"

She's raising awareness of herself, she using herself as a prop, and because 16 year old angry dutch girl or whatever seems iconographically "neat" clickbait pimps it out, but at the end of the day she's not doing anything. Or helping anything.

The only possible meaningful impact she could have is triggering trump enough that he says something so patently false about climate change that the rest of the republicans want to distance themselves from it and thus end up taking a little more reasonable approach towards it.

Why does it matter that she's foreign in a venue that has multiple world leaders?

It matters as far as the US perception of it.

Let's be real, what good is she actually doing? Moreover what good is she doing that can't be done better than a good climate scientist?

No one listened to the scientists.

The fact that people are talking about a teenaged girl means that she's already having an impact.

Imagine thinking this

Why can't we just get experts out in public speaking out and detailing things?

They have.

Plus, she's part of the generation that will be dealing with the climate mess when they get older if we don't deal with it now.

as a 16 year old foreign girl speaking to world leaders that's not an endearing look.

What does "US perception of it" even mean?

"Why are people talking about guns when there are real issues?

*talks about climate change*

"That's all sensationalism or there's nothing we can really do. Worry about the real issues! Like how persecuted Christians and Republicans are! And how liberals will institute communism!"

Why can't we just get experts out in public speaking out and detailing things? Hell, bring Al Gore back. What the fuck does she know? She comes off as self satisfied and condescending, and as a 16 year old foreign girl speaking to world leaders that's not an endearing look.
Experts have been talking about this for the last 30 years.

No not those experts! Experts that will somehow get through to my thick skull!

Nothing says legit like the umpteenth Soros deep-state conspiracy

By all means, if you are able to refute the article, by all means, I'll hear you out. But eyerolls and "nuh-uhs" aren't an argument and further prove you have no legs to stand on.
