Rufus is in one of the more unfortunate positions of any character - he has no primary supporter and is part of the biggest bloc in the contest, prime conditions for a lot of mid-contest drops. He gets a minor STATS boost, rising 0.62% to 44.52% and up three spots to 68th. He gains a bit more in the newSTATS, gaining 1.26% to 44.40%, and climbing two spots to 65th.

Also I'm guessing Selphie for the large difference and Lightning for the small one?

Ah yeah, that makes sense. It was a tough break, but nice improvement over last year, I remember that 75th place since that's around when I started actively participating (and made a hilarious and very public mistake, ah...)

And for next year, Rufus will be in the remake so I still believe in the remake boost for him too!!

Poor Cissnei.

This contest functions by characters having a main saver, and as lefty alluded to Rufus hasn't ever really had that. The closest thing was ahirsch. He can really only succeed if he just outlasts stuff like Cissnei, which is very rare considering he lacks someone to main him before he gets eliminated. In essence, it'll never be "poor Cissnei" because she'll always have someone to make sure she doesn't get eliminated this low. A boost based on the remake will be pretty useless for anyone from VII unless it makes a new main saver out of them; this is SMFFFC, not Character Battle.

Yeah I guess v_charon's right, Rufus's strong performance was a byproduct of him already having lost his other characters so being able to dedicate more saves to him. Probably a soft boot next year.

And yet, I still want to believe though! All we need is a new contest and the remake brings in fresh blood.... where's the damn bracket!!!

i always assumed newSTATS had lower rquirement since it's 13 less contests but i guess we do have like 8 'newstats' ones now

... still.. that 4 requirement is like half of all newSTATS contests. I imagine that would boot out a lot of people from newSTATS who are in oldSTATS?

... but really I just assumed oldSTATS qualifications would just work for newSTATSers

(Next would have been Kefka and Cloud, who didnt seem to have much success at first, but has now been to 2 Championship matches, with a win, and numerous top 20s since then.

and yes, I went with four contests because 1) consistency, and 2) half of all contests was the original STATS standard

I can't imagine who this character is, but I wouldn't have guessed Squall for highest either. I can't remember a time when Squall didn't do consistently well because I joined smiffic after the RayTan era.

I can't see the remake changing things at all. Everyone has basically made up their mind on the characters, and seeing them again in prettier graphics isn't going to affect that.

i already like barret more just from the trailers. minor characters now speaking and having a voice is going to make them much more votable next year too.
