Drakengard 3 - Antipurity - whoa... this could be my new favorite from the game. It's certainly my favorite of the day. Love the intense atmosphere. When the vocals come in is really great.

Einhnder - Shudder - close match. The 0:48 -1:00 climax in Magus' theme is my favorite musical moment in the ENTIRE game of Chrono Trigger. I prefer Shudder outside of that, though. Fun note choices all over the place. I'm going to have to listen to both again tomorrow.

Mega Man 5 - Gyro Man - yay, this gets to be used! It's my third favorite robot master stage theme in the game. Reflections of Violence is cool, kinda...at least I like more it than the Dusk music two days ago. I enjoy the quieter section with those crescendos.

Oh, interesting. I didn't know that if an alt was already used in a tiebreaker that it doesn't get used in the next tiebreaker. What would happen if Dusk got really far in the contest and then tied with its opponent, with all of its music already used besides its #1?

It's sort of like a "song shuffling" queue for repeated ties. So looking at this rule from the contest topic:

4) In the case of a tie, the match will be reran using the Alternate slot song instead of the original match. If the Alternate song is used and another tie happens, the eligible song used the longest time ago will be reused instead.

Let's say that Dusk advances to Round 3, and gets to use its 6 song, which is the one it hasn't used yet. If god forbid it tied AGAIN, the "song priority order" would be in order of last usage... so looking at its history...
After Round 1: 4
After Round 1 Tie: 4, Alt
After Round 2: 4, Alt, 5
The 4 was the "earliest used" song, so it got picked as a replacement. Lets say Dusk continues its tirade of tying in later rounds... or heaven forbids,
After Round 2 Tie: Alt, 5, 4 (4 was used as alt, so it gets shifted to "last used")
After Round 3: Alt, 5, 4, 6
It would use the Alt in its alternate slot this time. If a double tiebreaker was needed for Round 2, it would similarly also use the Alt.
So in the event that Dusk kept tying in the semifinals or the finals, it would keep cycling through the list (prioritizing 1/2/3 slot songs if possible in Semifinals/Finals) like that until something somehow won or we all go insane

Not sure how followable that was hopefully that answers something haha

Somehow both of these in the first match are giving me similar vibes, both are chaotic but in very different ways. If not for the chanting, Antipurity totally sounds like something I'd expect from the Dark Souls series. Anyways, close match, I like both of these.

Okay I don't know what to write for match 2, I've been flipping back and forth constantly between which I want to vote for and I just need to make up my mind now. I'd take Shudder over anything else from the Chrono series easily, but Battle With Magus is my favorite by a sizeable margin. Going with Shudder because I'm in the mood for '90s cheese right now.

Didn't we already have Reflections of Violence? (sorry, if we did I wasn't really paying attention to how we'd be handling repeats)

Kirby song is pretty fun. Antipurity is okay. A bit more melodic than the Drakengard style can be, but it still gets tiresome by the end.

Shudder has a neat 90s feel to it. Good energy.

I'm not a big fan of most Kirby stuff, but Underworld is cool. Antipurity is incredible, though. Like it's just pure, unbridled foreboding and I love it.

Shudder's amazing too, but Magus is a classic for a reason.

MATCH 1

It's a good thing that the matchup with Antipurity is what it is, because Antipurity is definitely my least favorite song in the Drakengard 3 setlist. Like I enjoy this significantly less than many other songs from this game. Pretty much night and day between Antipurity and Egregori from the last match Drakengard 3 was in. Antipurity definitely gets better when the vocals come in, but overall, I'm not particularly enthusiastic about it. Similarly, Underworld doesn't really do anything that makes me feel any specific way about it. Just kinda blends in I guess without really doing anything noteworthy. Antipurity edges out here.

MATCH 2

Shudder is pretty cool, but not really as good as the other Einhander songs that have shown up. I find it slightly amusing that the rap sample this song uses has been used in other songs in video games too. Kinda makes me wonder where exactly the composers got it from. Maybe some old sound library or something?

This is kind of amusing to say, but I remember listening to Battle With Magus for the first time via a World of Warcraft video I watched like 10 years ago. Not sure what I thought at the time, but the fact that I remember something like that implies that I thought the song was really good. And it is really good! I don't actually have much to say about it, it's just a really cool battle theme.

MATCH 3

Pretty close match. Gyro Man is decent for Mega Man music. I like 0:27-0:43 in particular. Reflections of Violence isn't quite the kind of metal that I prefer. It has this slow and steady, but also repetitive rhythm that I don't really care much for in metal. I guess my ideal style of metal is very expressive and fast-paced if I had to describe it in words (more symphonic styles of black metal is a great example of this). I was initially feeling Reflections of Violence more, but the more I listened to it, the quicker I got tired of it. Gyro Man doesn't really suffer from that problem, even though I'd say I prefer metal to Mega Man music generally, so Gyro Man gets the vote in the end.

This was a pretty eh day for me tbh. I wasn't super feeling Underworld compared to most of the RTDL tracks I love, but it was still enough for me to vote for it today it turned out.

2nd match both had merits, neither my favourites but both were good, just too damn different from each other to really pick a favourite
