I've never paid more than 5k for a car. I did however draw my own floor plan and pay 170k for my house. 30k down so my mortgage is 775 a month, a lot less than most you suckers pay in rent.

When I say biggest, I mean the thing you bought (prompt payment) that costed the most amount of money. Prompt payment as in, not via instalment like a mortgage? If mortgage/financing counts, I bought an apartment for somewhere between $1.3m and $1.5m. If not, it would be a Mercedes GLE which I bought two months ago for $120k in cash. I didn't count investments though because technically I'm leveraged when I do these (i.e. combination of my own equity and financing) which is what enables large notionals/principal even though the mark to market value isn't huge. --- If you can understand this, I'm 2/cosC for you. ... My last car. Cost about $18,000 after taxes. I wanted to pay for it all up front, but the biggest discount was tied to using the dealer's stupid financial services dept. to take out a loan on it (apparently now, car dealerships are more like mini-banks, and make most of their money on loan interest). I asked, "what's the most I'm allowed to pay up front and still get the deal?" and cut a check for $10,000. Then paid the rest off the first month a payment was due. Paid like $40 in interest for $1000 off on the car. Worth it.
