I probably wouldn't have been allowed an M-rated game, but there was never a specific one that I wanted and was prevented from getting.

My mom wasn't crazy about Melee, though.

Mortal Kombat, I think.

By the time GTA3 was out I was old enough to where it didn't make a difference (I was 14, my parents weren't paying attention to what I was playing by that point).

Only one I can think of was Manhunt 2 because it was up for actual banning and my parents thought I'd be arrested for having it lol

I remember showing my dad Primal Rage and being worried when he was shocked. He just thought it was cool and was shocked video games could show stuff like that. He ended up being mad that the special moves were so complicated to pull, even with a move list.

That is a common complaint about the game.

Supposedly PR2 has better controls.

FUN FACT: There is not a single arcade-perfect port of the game because of the complicated DRM that it uses that no one's ever been able to work out.

I never had my parents forbid me from playing a game. They were pretty clueless about video games though and had no idea what I played.

by the time real mature games existed I was old enough I could play anything I wanted. but I remember one time as a kid I wanted to rent Castlevania. and my mom said it would give me nightmares. that was the only time I ever got banned from a game. she even later like maybe just a couple years later, let me rent Castlevania 3, I remember

They were oblivious, but my grandfather saw Vice City on the news and mentioned it to me. All he took away from it was that it was a murder-simulator where you kill Haitians. I don't remember how the conversation went but he didn't care that I played it, he just thought they were gonna take it off the shelves.

I wasn't allowed any M rated games until I was 16 (even then, my first M game was Persona 3, which isn't all THAT bad in terms of why it was rated M). I also wasn't allowed to watch shows like Family Guy until I was around 15.

Because of that, plus being homeschooled for 4 years, I was rather sheltered and this led to me being bullied frequently when I finally went back to school.

Thanks, mom and dad.

I remember my dad's brother married a super religious woman and she didn't allow her family to watch the shows we watched as a family like The Simpsons, The X-Files, NYPD Blue, and ER because they were promoting Satan. She also would try and convince my parents to not watch those shows and instead read the Bible as a family. My parents would mock the shit out of her behind her back at every opportunity.

My aunt bought us this SNES fighting game called Weaponlord or something, but my mom forbade us from playing it because it was rated T and we were too young.

I don't think I ever did play it even after I came of age, and I have no idea where it is now.

I was never really banned from playing anything. Hell sometimes my parents would surprise us with game rentals and let us go nuts with it. We'd even find them playing it. The one video game the whole family loved playing was toejam and earl
