And none of this original story BS or anything. Just give us good ol' X-Men vs Brotherhood action.

And it should be team-based.

And give me Kitty, dammit

There have been quite a few X-Men fighting games over the years, including Children of the Atom, Mutant Academy 1 & 2, and Next Dimension. That's not counting XM vs SF, etc.

CotA is probably the closest to a classic X-Men storyline.

I've played pretty much all of them.

Aside from wanting a newer one, the rosters of the old games(aside from Next Dimension) kind of feel rather lacking these days; especially with the Capcom series.

Next Dimension's a fun game, but between the bloated lifebars, emulation problems(latency and input related) and overall clunkiness due to the game's age, I'm ready to move on.

That and I want a team-based game with a purely X-Men roster. It makes sense afterall, since the X-Men has always been a squad-based series. And especially-so if you're going to involve the Brotherhood. Hell, I'd be satisfied with a 3D arena fighter.

And yeah, Kitty sadly got neglected a lot. She grew on me back when X-Men Evolution was airing(since that was the X-Men cartoon that I grew up with). Unfortunately, her potential is rather limited in a lot of the same ways Rogue is. Still, I think she'd be better in a 2D fighter. It'd be interesting if she was a character you couldn't corner because she could just up and Pac-Man to the other side. Beyond that, her Mugen incarnation has her using through-the-floor Shoryukens and variable running attacks a la Guy.

I also want to the return of characters like Toad. He's not a personal favorite, but fuck if he wouldn't be interesting. Aside from the fact that he fights with his fucking tongue, you'd also have his hitbox shenanigans to deal with.

And how many games have both Nightcrawler and Gambit? It's usually one or the other. Probably because they appeal to the same 90's crowd more or less.

We could use a modern X-Men game for many reasons. A lot of people want an X-Men Legends 3, and I'd be cool with that. But I'd much rather a team-based fight in whatever shape or form.

So after a bit of thought, this is what my roster would look like more or less:

Wolverine
Cyclops
Storm
Jean Grey
Beast
Iceman
Psylocke
Colossus
Kitty
Gambit
Rogue
Nightcrawler
Angel
Jubilee
Bishop
Cable
Cannonball
Warpath
Magneto
Sabretooth
Juggernaut
Mystique
Quicksilver
Scarlet Witch
Pyro
Toad
Blob
Avalanche
Havok
Sauron

It caps out at a solid 30, with room to make some reasonable cuts if that number doesn't sound entirely realistic.

The X-Men(and good guy side in general) is a bit front-loaded, but if necessary, it wouldn't be hard to explain some wildcards like Gambit, Bishop, etc. fighting for the Brotherhood using the appropriate story elements. Cable and Co. are also there to give X-Force some love. Shatterstar's actually my favorite member of that group, but I felt he was a bit more out of place whereas the other three have a bit more direct involvement with the core franchise.

I was considering it, but between wanting a focus on X-Men vs Brotherhood and trying to figure out the various bosses and their roles, etc. to be quite frank.... I have no idea where to go in that regard. I was also trying not to bloat the roster with too many telekinetic characters. Same reason Emma isn't in there. Granted, they have other abilities, but still.

If I were to opt for a single boss, it'd definitely be Onslaught. With the focus being back on Xavier vs Magneto, it'd be too appropriate. But some hidden bossfights with the likes of Sinister or whoever might not be a bad idea.

The concept doesn't work well with a fighting game. However, we saw variations of that with the XML series, etc.

Also, I'm not sure what your obsession with the Brotherhood is. Outside of X-Men Evolution, they were always just one evil faction amid a ton of rogues.

...oh, well, that actually *does* explain a lot. When you first started talking about Kitty, I was thinking more Pryde of the X-Men and her original 80s run. I forgot that she basically served the same role in Evolution as Jubilee on X:TAS.

Too many heroes, not enough villains. Cannonball and Warpath could certainly be skipped in favor of some iconic X-Men villains.

But she's... oh, right, you're thinking of Evolution. White Queen was a Brotherhood member in Pryde of the X-Men.

And telekinetics can have energy projections (and summon temporary shields). (Of course, you might be thinking of *telepath* instead of telekinetic. It's worth noting that Psylocke has telepath abilities as well.) The real hard thing would be a character like Mastermind -- who was an original Brotherhood member and showed up in multiple lineups, although if you watched Evo you'd think of him as Apoc's henchman.
