If they are true horse people they can be pretty amazing.
But a true horse person is a different breed. It is a lifestyle as much as anything. I live in a Horse town and have met all kinds of horse people. Some people love horses very deeply. Others kind of just use them. Having said all that, if you think a dog is high maintenance, that's nothing compared to having a horse. --- "Whatever the reason you're on Mars, I'm glad you're there, and I wish I was with you." ~Carl Sagan. Joke answer: of course, horse girls are crazy
Serious answer: even if you meet a sane one she's always going to love that horse more than you. She'll be up at 6am every morning and away for 2 hours every evening for that damn horse. If they keep a horse because they like horses and not as a lifestyle or image accessory then they tend to be really nice people.
If it's because "Mummy and Daddy kept them so to keep one's appearances up one must also maintain a stable" then avoid them. If the feed bucket has dents on the bottom of it, avoid them. If they expect you to pay for the horse's upkeep, avoid them. Horses turn money into shit, but they are rather nice. --- http://s2.excoboard.com/exco/index.php?boardid=9458 So says Mr. Stewart. ... You're forgetting the true enemy.
https://reductress.com/post/breaking-ferret-girls-are-the-new-horse-girls/ I grew up in a Triple Crown area and we thus have a lot of horse- and ferret-girls. They are the same, just with different economic strata (and a lot of poor people who want to be part of the horsey set). Owning a horse is necessarily a lifestyle because of everything that goes into training a megafauna. I'd say only avoid them if you've never been around more than three people who have owned horses. If you know the subculture, you can know what you're getting into. But by knowing what you're getting into, you have to make sure you really</> know what you're getting into. --- Please, call me Vanai. CE's Official linguist, War-tor-le and Charizard ... I mean, nothing more outlandish than what's been posted, but it is an extremely robust subculture. Not giving a **** about her hobby will not fly, compared to, say, gaming where it can be done individually. There is a tremendous social aspect to showing and racing, so you'd have to be ready to talk to a bunch of possibly-rich strangers several times a year. The horse, being alive, needs exercise, so if you've never had a regular fitness or obligation requirement, that can do you in. Whether or not you engage in any training, you have to be ready for some times that are just wholly blocked out in perpetuity. There is process involved: a fun ride involves fifteen minutes of set-up and thirty minutes of grooming and cooldown. You will be made to learn new vocabulary. You will become more comfortable with manure. Anyone over age fifteen who has a hobby is a little weird about it. Most hobbies dont involve huge creatures. Horseback requires a willingness to assume what is correctly called animal husbandry. Like all-in "Moms" who have that as their main identity, so too will horse chicks be devoted to their mount. Whether they intend to or not, the time demands will force it to be their main preoccupation. Best case scenario, large animal care will be an exercise in patience and tending to something external. Typical case, you'll have never had a non-optional task and will project craziness onto the care demands of a large beast. --- Please, call me Vanai.
