I was trying to make a list of my favorite shapeshifters-as-shapeshifters (not just characters I like who also happen to be shapeshifters)

- Ditto: THE iconic shapeshifter imo
- Bigby Wolf: okay he only has one major transformation scene in TWAU but I love that scene so much and it's a significant part of why I like the character
- Mega Charizard X (the black/blue one): I'm not even that big a fan of vanilla Charizard but his X form is the best
- I bet Gnar would be on this list if I actually played League
- why didn't we get any Transformers in the contest? (or do they not count)

I generally voted with this criteria heavily.

Shang Tsung and T-1000 being relatively higher priority were highly influenced by that at least. Honestly though I think most of the field was fine for the category-- the category itself may have just been too broad/hard to define in a way that didn't exempt too many characters.

I kinda get the feeling the idea was that charon wanted characters that change into multiple things and it's a defining aspect of their character, something you'll see them do almost all the time when they appear.

It may just be the Castlevania 3 fan in me but I think Alucard fits the category as well as anyone. Bat form was his entire schtick in that game. SotN he has several forms as well though they're less vital to the package there, but when I think of shapeshifter Alucard fits pretty well, for me.

Kirby on the other hand, not really what I'd call a traditional shapeshifter in that most of his forms aren't what I'd call shape shifting. Alhough he can shift his shape at all times-- I wouldn't like Mr Fantastic in this category either and he technically was allowed.

Like I know what the ideal was, and this final ain't it (though I'd argue Alucard is p close), but like yeah. It's tough.

I don't think it's as tough as you think it would be. It's not exactly an uncommon ability, and a lot of really good candidates that no one thought of until it was too late didn't even make this field. The majority of the field is fine, though I'd prefer characters who have multiple types of things that they're able to turn in to, so long as they're at least well known for complete shapeshifting, I am okay if they just have one form.

90% of Kirby's notable complete form changing is from stone form which I would hardly consider a defining aspect of his character.

The other 10% would be random obscure Kirby 64 combinations and some minor other forms that appear in a game or two like UFO.

Mainly the reason he should be accepted in here is the Mr Fantastic type stip, who while didn't make it in himself, let guys like Venom and Carnage in who are similarly not really the types of characters I think of when I think of a shapeshifter. But it's whatever. Much like charon I conceded it before the contest and Kirby is my second favorite character in the field but yeah. I don't think I ever voted him.

Awesome finals! These were two of my favs of the non-horror characters in the contest. It's tough to decide which to vote for against each other, as I have voted both of them pretty regularly throughout.

On one hand, you have Alucard, one of the most iconic characters of the NES era, who grew into starring roles and acquired even more fans. His shapeshifting has been one of his defining features, and it made him very fun to play, especially in games where the other playable characters didn't have that ability, so it made him stand out even more.

On the other hand, Kirby, one of the most iconic characters of any era. His simplistic design and cutsie face is always a funny thing when he's often cited as one of the most powerful characters in any form of media. His shapeshifting ability has many different features, between him taking the form of his enemies, as well as the bendy body properties that allow him to fly and squish himself to nothing like Elastigirl.

It's a tough decision, but by my last count, Alucard was winning, and since I love both, let's keep it close like the whole Top 4 has been. So...
